Nestled right off of the main street in downtown Verbier Switzerland, Le Chamois is a classic Swiss restaurant where both cuisine and aesthetic/ambiance match. With every meal you receive a basket of bread, as well as a salad made of lettuce, tomato, and shredded red cabbage, carrots, and cucumber. For my entreé I ordered the rosti with sausage and onion gravy. When it was brought out to the table it was steaming hot, and the presentation was excellent. A dash of balsamic reduction and colorful floral bits sprinkled over top was set nicely to one side of the plate, and the potato pancake was served with the 2 hearty sausage links perched delicately atop. The onion gravy was served in a small dish which made it easy to drizzle or dump over your plate, and it was excellently thick with the softened sliced onion remaining in the sauce. For dessert I sampled both the Apricot sorbet, and the pear William sorbet. The Apricot sorbet tasted exactly as does the fruit, and it seems quite clear that it was made with real fruit and all natural ingredients. The Pear William was also delicious, and the liquid paired with the sorbet nicely, as both had a similar flavor. The service was friendly and quick, however the entire restaurant did smell somewhat of...
Read moreThe food was good. Most of our group liked their meats, potatoes, mushroom sauces. The bread wasn't fresh, and someone noted the salad wasn't washed well. The service was ok. It was unlimited time to talk that we were given after we finished our dishes and declined the deserts. One of us had look for the waitress to initiate our checks. It took some time to split out payments, and only one round of corrections to make it right. In the check we only noticed that the price for the wine was slightly lower then in the menu, and figured out that they served a smaller bottle, 0.5l instead of 0.75l. It was ok still, we were somewhat short on wine, but ok. It was noted it to the waitress, that for 5 people she should be bringing a regular bottle, or at least ask which one we want if they offer a variety of sizes. She promptly brought their captain, who, unacceptably for such an expensive establishment, started to lecture me how to properly order in their restaurant. To summarise, it's their service starting with their chief waiter who took two points from...
Read moreAfter dining in a few locations in this area, and having a meal this evening, there are a few areas that really stand out.
The atmosphere is friendly, it’s well lit and people where engaging and honest (not like US service where it has no authenticity or English where people couldn’t care less about your business).
The food for the price was outstanding. The starters where fresh, the mains meat was cooked to perfection (sauce could have been a little more fragrant) and the veg was al dente with a lovely garnish sauce.
The dessert literally had me moaning which was embarrassing but Swiss Chocolate Fonant for me was world class.
There are many options in Verbier, and if you are looking for a family friendly restaurant, without pertinacious attitudes and very good food/service you need to give...
