Vecchia Napoli Vevey — Restaurant in Vevey

I’m usually not much of a writer and normally there is rarely a reason to leave a review. But this ristorante is somewhat different. Short version for the reluctant readers: enter, sit down, put your mobile phone away, immerse yourself in the atmosphere and enjoy the pizza!

Now for the avid readers: The Vecchia Napoli Vevey is literally a hidden gem. The entrance is somewhat hidden amid a narrow staircase. I was alone on a business trip a few weeks ago and had little time for lunch. My appointment was close by so I checked the area for restaurants. I was first hesitating because the staircase isn’t very inviting but gave it a try anyway. And I didn’t regret. As soon as you enter you feel immediately the Italianità. The furniture, the decoration, the smell, the music, the ambiance. This is probably how Napoli feels. Oh this smell of wood stove Pizza and Italian Espresso. Can you smell it? The young lady in charge of the service was friendly and welcoming. Service was quick and impeccable. The choice of pizza is enormous. I chose the Arcobaleno with a mixed salad. And let me tell you: this might be the best Pizza north of Napoli. The texture of the dough, the crust, the tomato sauce, the amount of toppings. Perfectly harmonic and balanced. Nowadays, pizza is often a disappointment. Actually it isn’t even a disappointment anymore, because we all got used to it. The Pizza at Vecchia Napoli reminds us, why it started the conquest of the world almost a hundred years ago. So simple yet so complex. Bravo to the Vecchia Napoli team! Please don’t change...

Pizza was tasty and met my standards. I asked for a vegetarian without mozzarella and it arrived after 15 minutes. HOWEVER: Customer experience was low and pretty disappointing. We were 3, we arrived 1h before the closing time on a Saturday. Some tables were still available. We entered the pizzeria and had to wait 10 minutes before the two waiters would speak to us. After getting their attention, I spoke to one of them to ask if we could have a table. I gave my apologies for not booking in advance and he told me: at least one thing you got right! I was shocked for such a comment. l understand it was the end of his workday, maybe he was tired or frustrated but his approach ruined the enjoyment of pizza unfortunately. I will give a second opportunity to Vecchia Napoli because pizza is good and the place has a vibe but I hope Vecchia Napoli will learn from my feedback and won’t...

A very rude personnel! When we entered half of the tables were free but they wanted to put us next to somebody else! I still insisted on getting one of the free tables and she didn't let us choose a table but brought us to the darkest corner, constantly repeating "ça va, madame", even though it was clearly not OK for us. She just didn't want to listen any more of what I was saying. It is the first time such thing hapenes to me, I didn't even know how to react to such a behaviour. We have simply left, since our mood was spoiled completely. May be their pizza is good, but good food requires a nice service as a dressing to make me happy and this place is not the one...,...
