The Fork - Alimentarium — Attraction in Le Léman (VD)

Relaxing places with a nice settings and stunning view

Although local inhabitants and those enjoying lakeside strolls embraced the Fork from the outset, obtaining permission for it to take up permanent residence in Lake Geneva was no piece of cake! At its official inauguration ceremony in September 2009, County Counsellor Jacqueline de Quattro highlighted the symbolic power such works of art can acquire, as with the mermaid in Copenhagen, the Manneken Pis in Brussels and now the Fork in Vevey. The trials and tribulations The Fork is a statue of great stature! Made of stainless steel, it is 8 metres high and 1.3 metres wide. It was designed by Jean-Pierre Zaugg, a sculptor from Neuchâtel, Switzerland and embedded in the lake in February 1995 to commemorate the Alimentarium’s tenth anniversary. It was initially intended to grace the lakeshore in front of the Museum for one year.

In 1996, despite backing from the town of Vevey, the Alimentarium did not obtain authorisation for the Fork to stay. Hence it left Lake Geneva for Littau in the Canton of Lucerne, to embellish the garden outside the Berndorf...

It’s definitely my favorite spot in vevey. The view is incredible: The lake & the mountains across (France). The Fork art piece is beautiful and fits incredibly well in its environment. The Fork is an 8-metre-tall (26 ft), 1.3-metre-wide (4.3 ft) stainless steel fork on the shore of Lake Léman. It’s part of the Alimentarium, a Vevey-based museum with a permanent exhibition on food and Nestlé's history. The fork was initially created in 1995 by the Swiss artist Jean-Pierre Zaugg to mark the Alimentarium’s tenth anniversary. The fork was removed in 1996 but reinstated about a decade later, following a public petition. Since 2014 Fork of Vevey is a Guinness World Record holder as the world’s tallest fork.

A must see! Just sit on a bench and enjoy the view!

There is this giant fork in the sea !! It's bound to catch attention of anyone who visits Vevey. It's beautiful in the background of such nice surrounding. On a lighter note, even a spoon would look nice there ;) I haven't gone inside the Alimentarium since it was getting late but heard great review from some locals. May be next time. Even if you don't go inside, the sea shore is beautiful enough to just hang around. I'm not able to show the exact "fork" in the pics since all photos with it have my friends in the frame.
