Located in the heart of Zurich, IGNIV by Andreas Caminada offers a unique dining experience that beautifully blends Swiss precision with a playful, sharing-focused concept. Nestled within the stylish Marktgasse Hotel, the restaurant exudes a warm, intimate atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home. The name "IGNIV" means "nest" in Rhaeto-Romanic, reflecting the cozy and welcoming ambiance that sets the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey. The menu at IGNIV is designed around the concept of sharing, with dishes served in small portions to encourage diners to explore a variety of flavors. This concept allows guests to savor multiple courses, each showcasing a blend of creativity, technique, and local ingredients. Service at IGNIV is impeccable, balancing professionalism with a warm, personable touch. The knowledgeable staff is eager to guide diners through the menu and extensive wine list, ensuring each course is paired to perfection. This attention to detail extends to the delightful array of petit fours that conclude the meal, adding a sweet and whimsical touch to the evening. While IGNIV is undoubtedly a high-end experience, it remains accessible and inviting rather than overly formal. The focus on communal dining makes it perfect for special occasions or gatherings with loved ones. For those seeking a memorable and refined culinary experience in Zurich, IGNIV by Andreas Caminada is a must-visit, offering a delightful fusion of creativity, flavor, and impeccable hospitality.

The food is good and presentation is nice but is lacking for a 1 Michelin star, I believe the rating is inflated because of the bar, where we did have a better experience and the staff were more friendly. In the restaurant we asked for a dry wine and specifically said we didn’t want sweet and we were recommended a sweet wine by the lady, who was very nice and friendly. The share concept is interesting but it feels more like a deconstructed dish split in several small dishes… so will not have 3 to 4 different dishes in each of the moments, but more like one dish split between protein and garnishes… so instead of have a stake and fries you’d have a dish with the stake and another with fries… except more elaborate, refined dishes. Also we kept getting different waiters through the meal, one of my friends was gluten free and they kept forgetting or messing up because they kept rotating waiters, which is not a great experience when you are gluten free. Another friend said she didn’t like mushrooms and so they completely changed one of the dishes which was a seafood dish completely by a piece of iceberg lettuce… which I believe they made a mistake and though she didn’t eat fish… Just not the best Michelin star experience.

Overall a bit disappointed. My honest opinion. I've been to several Michelin restaurants over the world, including Paris, London, San Francisco, other places in Switzerland, Tokyo and Seoul, but it was the first time that made me doubt the Michelin guidance. The atmosphere was good. However, foods were disappointing. Foods were alright overall, but not even close to the Michelin one star. The staffs were really kind, but their knowledge of their serving menus were questionable. When I asked about the ingredients, they answered Umami, after asking the chef, while the Umami means the taste, not the ingredients. The dessert started to melt after 2 minutes it's served and lost its shape. The wine pairing was also disappointing. Honestly, there could be so many 'Gourmet' rated restaurants that can beat IGNIV by taste. All my impression was based on the comparison with other two starred restaurants.

In Zurich, Switzerland, the Michelin-starred IGNIV restaurant presents a contemporary interpretation of Swiss gastronomy. Established in the industry, the restaurant is renowned for its inventive preparations that feature seasonal, farm-fresh ingredients.

The historical IGNIV building is situated in the city center of Zurich. Elegance adorns the dining room through crystal chandeliers, marble columns, and vaulted ceilings. Additionally, the restaurant features a cozy bar where patrons can enjoy a drink before or after dinner. In addition to providing a private dining room for special occasions, IGNIV organizes weddings and events with catering.

The IGNIV menu fluctuates with the seasons, but signature items include the following:

Jerusalem artichoke scallops accompanied by truffle vinaigrette Breast of roasted duck accompanied by foie gras and black truffle Black truffle fillet of Wagyu beef accompanied by potato gratin Soufflé of chocolate and vanilla ice cream IGNIV provides a tasting menu highlighting the chef's most recent gastronomic innovations in addition to the main course. A selection of wines from the restaurant's extensive wine list—more than 600 varieties from around the globe—is paired with each tasting menu item.

Recently, I had the privilege of dining at IGNIV, and the experience was beyond my wildest expectations. An elegant and refined ambiance accompanied the impeccable service and delectable fare.

The grilled scallops, accompanied by Jerusalem artichokes and truffle vinaigrette, formed the basis of my entree. The exquisitely cooked and incredibly tender scallops complemented the Jerusalem artichokes and truffle vinaigrette. I ordered the roasted duck breast with black truffle and foie gras for my main course. The duck breast was exquisitely prepared, and adding foie gras and black truffle added an extravagance. I indulged in a chocolate soufflé accompanied by vanilla ice cream as a dessert. The chocolate was flavorful and wealthy, while the soufflé was delicate and airy.

IGNIV boasts an impressively extensive wine list. With their vast knowledge, the sommeliers can assist you in selecting the ideal wine to complement your meal. The pairing was suitable for a glass of Swiss Chasselas accompanying my meal.

At IGNIV, the service is impeccable. The attentive and cordial staff goes above and beyond to ensure that each diner has an unforgettable experience. I was especially impressed by the sommelier's expertise in recommending the ideal wine to complement my meal and his comprehensive knowledge of the wine list.

I had an outstanding dining experience at IGNIV on the whole. An elegant and refined ambiance accompanied the impeccable service and delectable fare. IGNIV is highly recommended to those searching for an absolutely unforgettable...

So normally I Yelp everything but surprisingly this restaurant doesn't have a Yelp, they definitely need to change that. You can only find them with google! But this was easily the best food and drinks we had in Switzerland and the best service I've had in the world. Our main server of the day (I don't even want to just call him a server because he was so far above that) was Max. He was so helpful, attentive, and friendly, he heightened the experience to a whole new level! Now to the food, I have food allergies to honey and apple, which is often used in cooking. The chef and pastry chef went above and beyond to cater to them. I was expecting to just give some of the food to my husband that would have it, but instead they made completely different items that I could eat. I was so appreciative of that and everything was mouthwatering and delicious. From the bread, every course after, dessert, and candy, I wouldn't change a thing. We actually went 2 days in a row to IGNIV, first just to the bar and they recommended trying to get in for lunch. We are so glad we did and stuffed ourselves silly. The cocktails were amazing, the only thing I wish they had more of were tequila cocktails, but I didn't see many in Zurich at all so that's not on them. The bartenders were also very knowledgeable and attentive and delivered 1st class service. Whoever before said the service/food wasn't up to a michelin star, is just cranky and needs something to complain about. You cannot go wrong here. Just make sure you make a reservation ahead of time. They don't accept walk ins and dinner books up very quickly. Lunch is pretty easy to get in to so if you don't mind a very filling meal in the middle of the day and you have some time, you can get the same thing during lunch as you can at dinner.

I wish I could go back! I'm a foodie and could actually see myself traveling back to Zurich just to...
