Wüst Bäckerei Konditorei Confiserie - Zürich Maneggstrasse — Restaurant in Zurich

We live nearby and are frequent client. We love the place and the food is great. However, recently our experience has been severely damaged by one person from the staff (blond woman with glasses). Unfortunately, this is the reason for my review. She is so rude and horrible - her replies are most condescendent, she never gives a bag to carry the items (when it is obvious you will need one, it's not about being ecofriendly), she 'forgets' the bread that comes with the menus (and when you ask for it, she gets annoyed)... and I could keep going...tbh it's mostly the rudeness that bothers us to the point we don't want to go there anymore. She shouldn't be facing the public if she intends to give such poor quality service. We understand one can have a bad day (or bad days, in plural) but today I just couldn't take it anymore... it is not personal to us, we have seen her do it with other people too. This morning she was training a couple of girls who just joined the team, and I feel so sorry for them. It is awful to see how she treats them and really, one can see the pain they are going through. It is really a pitty, such a good bakery losing clients over rude staff. Hope they do something about it. Of note, the other staff are wonderful (the guy, the blond tall girl, etc.), no complaints whatsoever. So if you have the bad luck to stumble upon her, don't let it ruin your day...

Update as of August 2025: while the situation I described above lasted for months, this summer we have noted an improvement in the attitude of the workers, including the woman I referred to. We are happy to see that they take follow up and take action...

It’s unfortunate that is the main coffee/restaurant/bakery in manegg. If there were other options they would not survive:

1- The bread is not good, I bought 1 baguette here and my jaw still hurts from trying to eat it. The butterzopf from Migros is better. They really should review their recipes… and maybe getting vegan/gluten free options as well.

2- remaining food is very average, I prefer to order pizza than to go here. Specially due to the next point

3- the staff is very bad 90% of the time, lately there was a very nice lady and before there was a younger girl that was nice as well, all other staff have at some point been rude, impolite to me or just completely ignored me.

I ended up going here as last resort and was always anxious to go because of how rude and impolite they are.

The service is just bad, unfortunately. Apart from being usually unfriendly, they seem to be on a mission to teach everybody German at any cost, via snarky interactions and rudeness.

For the staff: You are in an area with several international companies, several hotels and blocks of flats often rented to workers who don't intend to stay forever. Many of us don't speak German well enough, but we usually speak English, and usually a bunch of other languages. We speak English with you because it's the language both sides can understand, because we are in a shop trying to buy things. You understand perfectly well, but you refuse to meet us half way, making every interaction a massive pain. Stop doing...
