This is a very nice and free-spirited family-friendly restaurant the Zurich area. I really felt that neue Berlin vibe of freedom and informal environment here, which you may or may not miss in Switzerland in general.
Price are reasonable considering the area (coffee from 4 to 6 CHF, starters between 6 and 20, main course from 15 to 37).
They have a very good bar here, both cocktails, the variety of wines and beers and the strong sprints are more then substantial.
I personally liked the kitchen here: simple and tasty organic dishes in general, with some interesting options with mostly local ingredients. Traditionally in Switzerland you can feel the German and the Italian cuisine influences with a very nice and sometimes unexpected twists.
I absolutely recommend this place both in a day time for a coffee, a quick bite or dinner. As well as coming here in the evening to feel the vibe of some local slightly...
Read moreA very cool and conscious vibe, though the food didn’t quite land for us.
The atmosphere is young, vibrant, and open-minded — it definitely has that modern, liberal Zürich feel. They seem to really care about sustainability and reducing food waste, which we really appreciated.
Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. We tried the beef meatloaf with rösti and vegetables, but the portion of vegetables was minimal (just a couple of courgette pieces), and the rösti came out quite dry. The meatloaf itself had an unusual texture and mix of ingredients, making it a bit hard to enjoy. We also ordered kombucha, and unfortunately found some unexpected slime in it, which was quite off-putting. Some staff members were really nice but the one taking orders for and serving food was rather on the rude side.
Overall, we enjoyed the concept and atmosphere, and we hope the food side will...
Read moreZiegel oh Lac is a combined bar and restaurant; the restaurant has a full menu, not just pub food.
The bar may be ok, but this is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been at. The decor is simple but all right; the service is friendly albeit very slow (the restaurant was almost empty when we went there, so no excuses).
The problem is the quality of the food. I had a schnitzel with risotto and a beer; I don't remember what food the others had. The schnitzel was hard and greasy; the risotto was simply disgusting. The rice was overcooked and slimy, the celery in it half raw. It tasted like bad university cafeteria food. My friends agreed that their food was also terrible.
I recommend that you do not go there. There are several other restaurants in the area; I haven't been to all of them, but the ones I have are clearly better. I will not go...
