I was craving a western style burger 🍔 and looked up KGB.
I really wanted this place to be great but unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations.
Perhaps I’m being biased as I personally prefer American beef, which is generally more juicy and tasteful, but the kiwi burger wasn’t up to my craving.
The ambiance is nice and decor different and interesting - I personally didn’t care for the naked breasted women in the bathroom that seems a bit outdated and sexist to me…however the rest of the decor was cool.
The large party of students next to us was a bit loud, for a weekday night so it was impossible for us to talk to each other.
There is a good selection of burgers, including vegan and a good selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
We asked the owner what the drink ingredients were and he couldn’t answer other than giving us a generic answer. I wound expect the proprietor to be able to give a detailed, knowledgeable answer. He was able to provide a knowledgeable answer as to what was in the food. Also they didn’t have all their drinks in stock.
The fries were the highlight of my visit. We got a mushroom and vegan burger. Both were only ok.
If I’m in the neighborhood I might go again but wouldn’t make a special trip out of my way. Try it for yourself and make your own decision, the owner is very nice, friendly and tries hard. 5 starts for effort 3.5 stars...
Read moreThe food here is great. We especially like the option of getting a "naked burger" (wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun). However, be careful about the menu and pricing recently. It seems quite confusing and makes it difficult for customers and staff to communicate effectively about what things actually cost since a recent change in how fries and salads are now ordered separately from the burgers. In the past, fries came with the price of a burger, and you could pay NT$50 more to get a salad instead of the fries.
The most important thing was in how the waitress took our order. After ordering our burgers, she asked each of us, “Would you like fries or a salad?” which made us think that just like when we ate here about a month ago, we needed to just make a choice between these two items that would be included in the price of our burger. But since that is no longer the case, it is misleading, and she should instead ask something like, “Would you like to order anything else?”
We ended up being surprised by a jump in the bill from our expectations of about NT$270 on top of the 10% service charge.
This won’t stop us from eating here again and we don’t want to dissuade anyone from eating here either. We just want to help make things clear so there are no...
Read moreGood food, bafflingly abysmal service. From the very beginning of the meal, I was confused; it was unclear if a server would take our order at the table or if we had to order at the counter.
I ordered a vegetarian burger, because I’m a vegetarian, and my friend ordered beef. There was a mix up when they brought the burgers to our table, but after two or three separate swaps and replacements, I was told the burger placed in front of me was the vegetarian burger.
It was not. I didn’t realize this, however, until I was in the middle of my meal, but based on the service I had already received, I figured it wasn’t worth mentioning.
When we paid for the check, the waitress asked me which burger was mine; since they were both listed as beef on the check, I told her I generally didn’t know which one was mine. She asked me with some attitude if I wanted to be compensated for the mix-up; I said don’t bother.
The food was good, I will admit; I loved the strawberry milkshake, and enjoyed the burger despite it having red meat that I do not typically eat.
Still do not plan on going back. I understand that with covid, the restaurant may be short staffed; this fact does not make me want to...
