Their new location is so much cuter! I like their outdoor seating for fresh air and their fans make it comfortable. This place has been a hit or miss so 2.5 stars out of 5.
Their bowl of chips was hot and tasty but pretty small for 250. Their portions are small in general though. My recommendations are their chicken tamale and their tostada tacos with shredded chicken and refried beans. The issue and downside is their pricing a lot more than other mexican places like 300-400 per dish and their music can be very loud (latin music) so if you're noise sensitive like me it's not ideal and also everything comes a la carte and there are no substitutions allowed unless it is paid for at an extra cost. I also find the environment a little tense each time that I visit and is more suitable for big groups than solo dining. Also the quality of food and even the salsa is not consistent. I've visited 3 times and each time has been a completely different experience, only one of the 3 times has been worth the price so I will not revisit sadly as it is just too much of a gamble for me. It takes a lot of time for their kitchen to cook also but Good Mexican food is difficult to find in Taipei. Tonight's visit my tostadas were super soggy and the refried beans were watery, other time tostada was crispy and amazing so idk 😅
They are now located closer to Sogo though so I'm sure they'll have more customers come and if you come in a group, I'm sure it's a...
Read moreI had high hopes for Teotihuacan given the colorfully inviting interior decor that reminded me of my time in Mexico, but as a Californian who spent 30 years of my life eating Mexican food, including over half a decade as a part of a Mexican family, I left feeling extremely disappointed.
First, the chicken mole was the spiciest and most watery I've ever had. Good mole is well-balanced and thick, not runny. This was the opposite. The guacamole and salsa were also watery. Both the chicken mole and tacos arrived very quickly (as in a little too quickly) and they were lukewarm, not hot. The lemon that came with the taco dish was definitely not fresh.
The service was as disappointing as the food. The staff seemed unhappy to be there, and overall the restaurant has a weird vibe. Unlike many restaurants in Taipei, there were no visible Covid prevention measures in place. Employees were not wearing masks and there was no temperature check.
While I understand that making truly authentic Mexican food in Taiwan is difficult because of lack of access to ingredients, this is not what I would consider even a decent attempt at quality Mexican food.
The worst part is that the prices are totally out of line with the quality of the food and service. Forget the overspiced, watery $450 chicken mole or $300 tacos. A side of chips and salsa is...
Read moreThe Mexican food here is decent but everything definitely feels overpriced. I walked in with a friend at around 3 PM and we seated ourselves. There’s only one waitress who’s serving the food, ordering, and managing the cash register so I understand that there was no one in the front when we walked in.
We wanted to try a variety of things so we ordered the pork carnitas burrito ($195NT), beef tacos ($275 NT for 3, don’t be misled by the picture of 5 tacos on the menu), and the Mexico City Steak mexican plate ($375NT).
The burrito seemed like it was poorly put together and fell apart right when I picked it up. The taste was okay but I definitely have had better in Taipei.
The tacos were definitely the best thing we ordered here. The corn tortillas were a nice change of pace for Mexican food in Taipei. The meat was also good.
The Mexican plate was extremely disappointing for the amount they give relative to the price you pay. I would not recommend this.
I love spicy things and really enjoyed the salsa they provided with the entrees but I would recommend that they provide a milder salsa as my friend did not enjoy the heat as much as I did.
Overall, I really wanted to like this place but the prices and the portions were...
