億品鍋 Mini Shabu Shabu 花蓮國聯店 — Restaurant in Hualien City

We saw this restaurant as we were walking by to find dinner. The staff was super friendly! He tried his best to explain the process to us as we only speak English. They do have menus in English, but the problem we run into is when placing the order! There is a machine where you have to place your order and pay first, but it was all in Chinese! The staff helped us place our order. We ordered two hot pot sets. We did not order the side/additional item as we do not know how big the sets were or what comes with the set. There were also a lot of free self-service items as well! There was a free noodle salad station, different flavor ice cream, popcorn, make your own sauce station, rice, coffee, tea, and different drinks. Not so recommended for hot pot lovers. But recommended if you have low budget but want to fill your stomach with hot pot and rice. Pros: Low price with lots of beverage choices and free rice, noodles, and salad bar. There are also ice cream and popcorn.

Cons: The soup tastes artificial. We had diarrhea after the meal. Ice cream and beverages taste like water. You can tell that the store owner wants to cut down on the food cost and save some ingredients. The salad bar provides shredded cabbage, alfalfa and bean sprouts, and corn kernels, which is not very satisfying for “salad.” The most annoying part is that they only provide one small bowl and one small plate for each person. You have to reuse those for salad, rice, noodles, and popcorn, unless you use the plastic cups for drinks, which most people do and causes...

Went there at 11am plus for lunch. The ordering is via a self-service machine at the entrance that only takes cash notes and coins. The kitchen staff are so efficient (also could be not too crowded yet at this early timing) that by the time we walked back to our table they have already rolled out the food.

The food is delicious and there is free flow of ice-cream, popcorn and drinks. The staff are friendly and would help to explain the ordering system if you are a first time customer.
