Bar Shepherd - 牧羊人 — Restaurant in Hualien City

As a French, I can tell you there is nothing french nor Italian about this restaurant. It's way too overpriced despite being labelled as some foreign cuisine. The cocktails are as expensive as in Europe but this 380NTD pink cocktail actually just tasted like hand sanitizer. The sauce for the chicken was really good but the meat in itself was undercooked (still very pink) and the truffle fries were nice. The salmon and truffle pasta was overcooked (the pasta were way too soft) and when we notified the staff they nicely redid the pasta... But they told us 20 minutes later that we would keep the fish (that was now cold and still untouched) so we had to ask them to reheat it. The dish once redone was good but not worthy of that price, the fish was way too small to be honest. No water was served before we asked for it. Now, let's talk about the worst part : the meat and cheese platter which is extremely overpriced and not good at all. The cheese from this platter is the cheapest cheese you can find from the supermarket and was completely tasteless. The meat was not as bad but didn't have much taste either. Calling that a cheese and meat plater is insane, and charging more than 600 NTD for such small portions of bad quality cheese in an insult to all types of cheese in general.

The place was nicely decorated, the music was fine and the staff (especially the barman) were polite. There is a lot of improvement but I believe the place could be a very nice restaurant if they cared more about the quality than the price. Expensive prices are ok, but then, you have to ensure a good experience for the customer. Having so many things to criticize is not ok when you charge so much...

Was not sure about this place. A little rural, figured it was hit or miss so I went into Hualien for a while first to have some food and drinks then returned to bar Shepard. Duh.... terrible idea. Bar Shepard is Excellent! There fries are to die for and their tea cocktails even better. I’m American, so I’m like tea cocktail... lol, this must be a joke. No Joke!!! Totally Excellent! Bar Shepherd is by the coast where the dining area, bar and kitchen is located outside. We went for dinner on a windy night and was welcomed by friendly staff, heaters to keep us warm and delicious food!
