Fung Hing cake shop — Restaurant in Hualien City

Out of curiosity, we bought bite size tea-flavored pastries that looked like mini-mooncakes at first glance. To our surprise, they were not anything like mooncakes at all. The texture was not as dense as mooncake and not as chewy as mochi. It had the consistency of a sweet red bean paste pastry, but not nearly as sweet. The tea flavor was present but not overwhelming. These pastries were well-balanced, unique and delicious.

The store looked clean but the presentation was a bit disjointed. The staff was trying to be helpful in explaining the products. However, since they didn't offer samples it was difficult to gauge the texture and flavors. If we had an opportunity to sample the tea-flavored pastries we would have bought more than just two!
