Jiu Hao Restaurant — Restaurant in Hualien City

This is Shanghai cuisine at another level. Though not exactly the same as those we will get in Shanghai, but with a different culinary approach! The pomelo flavoured slice lotus root is an excellent cold dish appetiser to start with. The pickled vegetable with bean cured skin looks bland BUT the broth is amazingly delicious. The signature deep fried duck is a must to order. Even the bones are flavourful and edible! Another of their signature dish is their steamed dumpling 小笼汤包. We might be familiar with the usual thin skinned version, but their version, though skin is thicker, the broth is flavoured with pickled vegetables mixed with the minced pork. We love it. The food here is at another level. We ordered 3 dishes and all were very good. I especially enjoyed the Tofu, pork knuckle & tendon in an egg yolk crab butter sauce. Any dish with a star is a Jiang-Zhe regional special and is highly recommended.

The waitress was helpful. She assured me my order was good and not too many for the two of us.

Even thought we already reserved a table in lunar new year eve, we still need to wait more than one hour outside and end up cancel our reservation.The staffs are so not efficient and have bad attitude. If you don’t have ability to handle that many customers, then should not accept the reservation in the first place. You totally mess up the trip.
