Often, it's a dilemma for me to decide if I want to eat at a busy restaurant that doesn't take a reservation, so long-wait is a necessity, or find one that looks nice&neat that could seat us in within half&hour. My sisters they always have restaurant plans weeks if not months ahead. My decades of work life already had enough of planning, scheduling, and on-time requirements to meet. Of course, we've learned that all our lives preparation is the key to success. But, in pleasing my appetite, I choose a relaxed approach or an impromptu one, like what I feel like to eat for tonight. As I've learned, populated and crowded restaurants don't always equal great food. In Taiwan, they used the expression of “ hitting a land mind” to describe bad dining experience. This time, this small, Japanese style decorated sushi place was my second visit. That showed I like it there. I've chosen a right day and the right time to go there without waiting outside in the street. It's located on a street without the usual flashy store fronts. Its store front colorful banner and Japanese appearance were waving at us when we just turned the street cornor. I didn't have the desire to compare their food taste to other high-end, top notched Sushi restaurant that each of their serving plate be arranged and decorated up to the hilt. (I bet you don't always eat those raw Orchids or Rosemary that come with the plate.) Because we were getting a satisfied Japanese style meal in a not-so-fancy but comfy and warm dining room at their reasonable menu prices. Or you may sit at the sushi bar to exchange some pleasant conversations...
Shisan Lane Sushi is a cozy little sushi spot tucked away in District. The interior is minimalistic, and they have the cutest dog inside 🐶. Seating is limited, so it’s a good idea to make a reservation or visit during off-hours.
I went on a weekday noon and didn’t order a set — just a few pieces of sushi and a couple of side dishes, and the bill already hit over NT$500 per person. A bit pricey for lunch, but the fish was fresh and well-prepared. The highlight was the Seared Flounder Fin (比目魚邊鰭 Hirame Engawa) — it literally melted in my mouth. Other sushi was decent, but nothing particularly memorable.
Parking around the area is quite difficult, so I recommend taking a cab or scooter. Overall, it’s a good spot for dates or quiet catch-ups, just be ready to spend a little more if you want...
Read moreThis restaurant is absolutely deserving of the high ratings! From the outside, it doesn’t seem special but once inside it is impressive. The variety (non-seafood and vegetarian options!), service, and portions are all fantastic! We ordered many dishes and each one exceeded our expectations. Possibly the best...
