Addict is a surprisingly excellent restaurant in Penghu’s Magong District.
We started our meal with Spanish Mackerel Tartlets ($200), made with fermented tomato juice, asian pear, barley koji, lemon confit and kombucha yuzu vinaigrette. The tartlets were very special, refreshing, delicate, and bursting with flavour.
Next up was the Grilled Octopus With Smoked Mashed Potatoes ($340), accompanied by spiced mushroom and potatoes, romesco saltbush, and lemon mayonnaise.
This was followed by a Pumpkin Soup ($220), dramatically poured over seasonal vegetables and seared scallops, and served with homemade focaccia and a homemade smoked bonito spread.
Now we were on to our main courses. I had the Cobia With Clams And Shrimp Sauce ($580) and my wife had the Tomahawk Pork Chop ($720), served with ratatouille, a red wine fig sauce, and apple purée. Both courses were excellent, but I felt my fish was especially good.
Normally we would share a dessert, but since it was my birthday, we decided to live large; my wife had the Kaffir Cream Cheese Espuma With Mango Granita ($220) featuring fresh mango, pineapple, koji, almond crunch, gelidium jelly, mango granita, and scoby, while I had the Lemon Pound Cake And Litchi Liqueurs Mousse ($220) which apart from being delicious was one of the most beautiful desserts I’ve ever
The service was excellent, the atmosphere chic, and the lighting was very well done, dark enough to be intimate, but still light enough to visually enjoy the food.
If this place were in Taipei, I’d be a regular. I don’t know if it’s worth flying to Penghu just for a meal at Addict, but if you’re already here you’d be a fool to miss out on this experience. Five...
Read moreService sucks badly. 2 waitresses had major attitude issues. I asked for an extra set of cutlery and bowls so we can share some of the dishes with friends, she brought a couple when there were more than couple of us. I didn’t bother asking them again because no waiters or waitresses were to be found. The restaurant wasn’t even busy at the time.
The duck confit wasn’t that great. The Duck was not crispy enough. The pork chop was great. Fish n chips were good too. Pumpkin soup was good. Snail pancake was good. Pastas were good as well. Yellowtail Fish entree was just ok.
When it came to paying for our supper, they only accepted cash & e-transfer, not debit or credit cards.
For the price point, the service was simply not worth it. The meal was not bad. The temperate temperatures of the food were good. But I would not recommend “addict restaurant” to others. It offers poor service / attitude / payment options for the bang of your buck. Skip this eatery for something else local. Much...

We had the tasting menu tonight and every course was not only delicious, but beautifully presented.
The menu started with a gorgeous and tasty one bite amuse, the octopus carpaccio, fish belly roll with a Thai foam, truffle pumpkin soup with a scallop, entrees were duck confit and lamb chop and dessert was churros and ice cream. We also had a bottle of natural Tempranillo (which was maybe just ok, but reasonably priced). The courses were also on the larger size for a tasting menu, so we were quite full.
If I had even one small critique to offer, for me personally, the salt level could have been slightly higher (very slightly)
The service staff all does excellent work and are incredibly efficient
I highly recommend Addict, if we’re were here more often, I would indeed...
