A ten minute walk from Tucheng MRT station, this small cafe offers a lot. Their menu has more variety before but now has been cut down to their most popular items. On our visit we had the mochi capybara cakes with ice cream, the regular capybara cakes with cream, a chocolate sundae, and the mixed fried food platter along with an iced coffee and a milk tea. Although not exciting or well presented, the sweets tasted good especially the mochi capybara cakes with ice cream. The fried food platter was not actually fried but prepared in an air fryer, which was actually my first time trying good prepared on one. They tasted no better than what you’d expect of you did it yourself but I thought it was good enough and was much less oil than I thought it was going to be. In the back of the cafe is a room where a tiny white dog and a cat are kept. Visitors can visit them at their leisure and both are cute, as behaved, and smell surprisingly good. You have to wait for your turn to visit the capybaras and each visit if only 20-25 minutes long and costs $200. Each visitor is given a cup of grass with which to feed the animals of which there are two. There is also an adorable duck that is very social and curious. The capybaras are very well behaved and have been raised by the caretaker since they were 6 months old. Even though this place is not overly exciting, you can get really close to the animals which you might have never seen before. This place is definitely...
Read moreLocation & Atmosphere: The Capybara Knight cafe is accessible by Taipei's MRT system , a 10 minutes walk from the Tucheng station. The ambiance is notably charming and tranquil, centered around the small pond area where the animals reside.
The Capybaras: The two resident capybaras, Caby and Bara, are the main event. They are calm and gentle, and the interaction session is a highlight, allowing you to feed and touch them. A devoted animal attendant is present during these sessions to ensure the animals' safety and comfort.
Booking & Logistics: Due to the cafe's popularity and limited space, it is highly recommended to book a time slot in advance to avoid disappointment or a long wait. The interaction with the animals is limited to a pre-set duration of 20 minutes.
The Verdict: While the overall experience is a memorable one, especially for animal lovers, there are some trade-offs. The food and drinks are a bit expensive for the average quality, and the service from the staff is not particularly warm and welcoming. However, if you are a tourist with extra time and are eager for a unique encounter, the chance to get up close with the capybaras is the primary reward.
This experience brought a specific Bible verse to mind:
"O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures."— Psalm 104:24
It's a beautiful reminder that even in a simple cafe, we can find a glimpse of God's wonderful and...
Read moreThis was my first experience eating at a cafe that also gives you the opportunity to be able to pet, take pictures and feed a Capybara. This place was quite far from Taipei. It is quite easy to get there on the blue MRT line, but again it was quite far.
Keep note that this isn’t the biggest place, so make sure that you make your reservation so that you do find a seat when you arrive. How it works is that they have a minimum each person including kids. I don’t quite remember if it was about 300NT an adult and 150NT for kid minimum spending. This would include your time slot (15 min time) to be able to spend time with the Capybara. They also have a cat, two ducks, and 2 rabbits on site.
I wished they gave us a bit more instruction when we went in to spend time with the Capybara, as my family of 4 was also slotted with 2 people. We didn’t know they were in the same time slot, and had to share the time with them, with at least one of those two giving a bit attitude. We have paid for 4 people so I would think we would get a good amount of time. Maybe if that is the case the restaurant can split the time so that the customers don’t have to face this.
The food was decent, and coffee was good. The egg waffle they had was shaped like a Capybara. Again it was quite a fun experience, I just wished there was a bit more clarity on spending time with the Capybara. Regardless they are magnificent creatures, even rolling over if you give them...
