I miss the good old Tokiya

Disclaimer: my whole review contains lots of intentional or unintentional comparison between the Tokiya in the past and the Tokiya nowadays. I apply this inner guide formed years ago to rate different aspects of Tokiya in 2023. This could be unfair for those who have never been here. However, review is subjective after all, so take it or leave it.

My friend treated me this meal so I'm not going to verbally rampage this restaurant. However, compared to the Tokiya 5 years ago, to me, this place, now, seems strange and cold.

First, food itself. dissatisfied. Except the entrée, all the dishes tasted blandly and did not spark any enjoyment on my palate. The entree was surprising...in a bad way. My friend ordered her steak for medium well, and mine was medium. Guess what, her was raw as flash, and mine was hard as jerky. The degree of doneness was suggested by the server so it further puzzled us why such a mistake happened on our steak. (hope you catch the rhyme:)

Second, service-wise, should I say awkward? Lack of smiles and warmth from the staff. No survey on our feelings after each course...To put it simply, the service was dangling on the minimum acceptance level, and at any moment, it could drop and shatter. For instance, a server tried to prop a spoon on my friend's dessert plate, and yet, the spoon kept sliding off from the plate. She repeated that sequence like three times and asked, "do you want another spoon?" Well, I thought that should be done with "no question."

Third, the ambience and hygiene, loud...and chaotic since one table right next to us had a plate shattering situation while the desserts were being served. Before I left, I used the restroom and discovered that the floor was somewhat very wet....

With all that being said, I am grateful for this meal because my friend was with me no matter how strange the situation could get. At table, people are the soul and food is the body. At least, my soul...

You can always find the consistent taste and flavor in each outlet. My kids love yummy foods here and request to come back again. If you are the member, you can get the birthday cake, free photo shooting and discount for 1 main course at the month of your birthday. It is the best gift for kids for sure. The tall, female staff is really professional to serve us and she told us that she is from other outlet, supporting the business for a period of time. I can tell her hospitality and expertise totally. It is really impressed with me. To sum up, it is a awesome restaurant for my family and always worthy to visit...

The food is good and drinks and dessert. It’s a chain store so don’t expect too much from its decoration and settings, it’s good enough though. However, it made us wait for more than 10min longer even if we had reservation made earlier. And we had to ask three waitress to reduce our waiting time, and no waitresses seem to be offering any help or compensation, which is really not like this Well Prime style. I think there’s some employee training need...
