The cakes and gelato are super delicious!! However, I guess the place is just too "high class" for me.
For such a tiny space, there are a lot of staff, and they're always keeping a close eye on everyone and asking questions. I understand they are just trying to be of service, but it kind of puts pressure on guests.
When I entered, nobody greeted me, nor was I asked if I was planning on eating in or picking things up to go, so I didn't realise we had to wait to be given a specific seat. I just got my order and sat at a random empty table. It wasn't until I started eating that I noticed a worker was now at the door greeting everyone and asking if they were there to eat in or take out, assigning tables, etc. It was awkward, because that staff member kept looking at me, but not saying anything, so I felt a lot of silent pressure to finish my gelato quickly and just leave.
Additionally, the area to line up is quite narrow and lined with gift boxes, nuts, cookies, etc. When I went to line up, I went to the back of the line and waited. The group in front of me had 3 people and took up a lot of space. When they finished and left the line, the worker looked at me while calling for the next person. Since the only one other person in front of me didn't respond and was looking at gift boxes, I thought the staff must be indicating I was next in line, so I went to the counter. After I started giving my order, the woman looking at gift boxes assertively stood next to me at the counter, and the staff told me to go to the back of the line after originally starting to help me. Since there were now a ton of people behind me in line, and I was originally behind that customer who was now being served, I just stepped back to my original spot behind that customer.
The gelato was super delicious, and their cakes are good and pretty, and the decor is so fancy, but the social experiences made it feel uninviting and awkward. I don't think I would ever go back for dining in. I'll stick to places more "my level" such as Louisa or the tea shop across the street from Min Ben Chi. If I go back, I'll just take my gelato or...
Read moreComing from a city where there's a very well renowned pastry store, it's great to come to Tainan and experience something also at an exceptional level.
The pastries are delicately and exceptionally well made, with an eye for visual detail and exquisite taste.
The Gelato was a very welcome addition with a wide selection of flavours ranging from the fruity (passion fruit) to the tea based (earl grey & black tea).
They also have a variety of teas and coffee choices, we had the black sugar latte... A good different.
Highly recommend coming here if you're in Taiwan and they have enough items to take back home with you for friends & family both in gift boxes & individually...
