Veganers (formerly Swarakchit Vegan Cuisine) has been on my list to go and dine at for some time. The restaurant has recently switched to being a plant-based, vegan only restaurant in the last year. It was the first thing on my to-do list as I travelled from Miaoli County to Tainan City on 3rd February 2022. I went there for lunch with my partner.
Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and shown our seats at the back of the restaurant where the TV was playing Bollywood music videos in the background. The restaurant was a bit busy so we waited until we were provided the menus and some water to drink. We ordered the following dishes:
C6 Mushroom Greens, C19 Eggplant Masala, S5 Cashew Oat Salad (1/2), S2 Tomato Soup, R1 Indian Bread
I chose S5 and my partner chose S2 as a starter. I loved the taste, flavour and crunchiness of S5. The staff said it was possible to order a half-portion of the salads and that is what I opted for. It was perfect. My partner said that S2 was too sweet for her. I tasted it and felt it was a bit sweet. I believe it is the natural sweetness of the tomatoes used as no additives or flavourings are used at this restaurant. We’ll try the pumpkin soup next time.
For the main course, we opted for rice with C6 (my partner’s choice) and C19 (my choice) and ordered R1 separately. I believed this was the perfect combo. We both enjoyed the taste and flavour profile of both dishes. In my opinion, C19 is a 10/10 and goes well with both rice and roti. I ate the food with my hands. It is the authentic way to eat an Indian dish as you can feel and taste the food from your fingers. I can still remember it right now as I’m writing this review one week on. I ate the leftovers of C6 as a soup as my partner could not finish it. It was lovely and refreshing.
In summary - simple decor, welcoming staff and superb healthy, vegan food. I hope to be able to visit again in the near future and try out some other dishes as well as the dessert. Thank you!
P.S. Not every dish will satisfy everyone and it is understandable as everyone has different taste palates. Hence, Veganers still deserve the 5-star rating for experimenting and creating a whole vegan, seasonal based menu for Indian food which is typically vegetarian or meat based in a lot of Indian households. Also, the higher price point is to be expected for non-Taiwanese foods as it costs more to import certain ingredients. Keep up...

I visited Tainan with my partner for a few days and was looking for vegan restaurants when I found Veganers and decided to pay a visit. The restaurant had great reviews and I was curious to see why so many people were talking about it being very innovative. When I experienced it, I could see why the restaurant had such raving reviews.
Veganers was easy to reach, clean and busy for a Saturday night. We ordered their Chickpeas curry and Okra curry with Roti. The food was heavenly and we enjoyed every bite. The quantity was more than enough for two people and complimentary tempeh was also provided. We ate till we were full and found everything extremely delicious, flavourful and healthy. So much so that after coming to Taiwan it was the only thing second to my mom’s cooking.
The owner is friendly, helpful and a good company. I learnt that he is a PhD holder and opened this restaurant only to educate people that vegan Indian food can also be delicious. He even gave us complimentary vegan kheer pudding which was out of this world. I’m not exaggerating! Please, if you go there, order the kheer and thank me later.
We were so impressed that we decided to visit again the next day. This time we ordered vegetable Dal and Eggplant Curry with Roti and their special watermelon Cashew drink. The food was very tasty as expected and the drinks were also very refreshing. I learnt that in their drinks and in their dessert, they do not add sugar but dates. It was so good to find an Indian restaurant that was actually concerned about feeding customers genuinely healthy food!
All in all, the menu is innovative, stylish and experimental and there are so many options and combinations to order that you would have to visit multiple times to enjoy the full range of food. Veganers is on a mission to provide healthy, fresh, plant-based nutrition, through their fantastic range of delicious Indian dishes prepared sustainably and ethically without the use of dairy and other animal products. This is what sets them apart and I would highly recommend you...
Read moreHello, wonderful people out there, I would like to take this opportunity sharing my experience dining at Veganers in Tainan, Taiwan. Veganers is not just an restaurant but an emotion, an emotion which reminds and connect you to your country, soil and home. It's this emotion which everytime tells you " a home away home". The food served in here is so pure and authentic that sometimes you can not even get at your home. Though, whatever served in here are all nutritious, delicious and worth trying but I personally like, aloo parantha, chickpea okra and mushroom potato with special drink made out of watermelon, cashew and dates (disclaimer : drink is not in menue, you can ask seperately to owner serving the same ). Above all, the owner is so friendly, ambitious and easily approachable. He researched and designed the menue in such a way that it covers everyone desires trying various delicacies from different regions in India. It would be justified if I say " Veganers is one stop solution for all " irrespective of locals or foreigners who want to try Indian food. I highly recommend this place to you...
