I am glad that we had a very early arrival at Taoyuan Airport (2am) that the metro is still closed or we would not have spent a bit of snoozing at the basement food court which we found when we followed the aroma of fresh bread baking from the arrival hall.
Unfortunately, IJYSHENG only opens at 5:30am so we have to salivate while we catch up to some snoozing.
And it was worth the wait...
THIS PLACE IS BREAD HEAVEN!!!!!
When we have lived in Singapore for 8 years, BreadTalk had been our go to "comfort" confections. We thought nothing can top off BreadTalk, and boy we were wrong.
After sampling their "Tuna Burger", we were blown away! The crunchy and caramelized exterior, beautifully baked and intricately presented. The soft and fluffy interior, and that flavorful tuna core kicks your taste buds telling you that this is a sweet and savory treat. I mean, I would reckon this to be more of a pie, but the playful naming of a "burger" is indeed part of the appeal.
This has been our first "adventure" in Taiwan and never expected our first major splurge to be in a bakery in an airport for crying out loud. And indeed, tears of joy rolled down as we bit off the last of our half a dozen haul - yes, they have a lot to offer, not just bread but also pastries, cakes and coffee that were also 👍.
The staff is also friendly and speedy.
This place has been so good to us, we returned here immediately on our flight back to Manila where we brought some home. And, the same sentiments have been expressed by those we shared IJYSHENG's magic with - BreadTalk suddenly just became a mediocre commercialized bakery even though they were priced roughly similarly.
How far is the gap between BT and IJS? I'd say more than a mile. Now, I know and can say that BT in Singapore is a bit better than here in the Philippines, but, even so. I JY SHENG is miles better still in my opinion. It's so good that I stopped buying from BreadTalk and just saving it all up for my return to Taiwan -...
Read moreRead good things about this shop. Came to pick up some bread then. Unfortunately not a favorable service from the two cashiers. Upon passing the bread tray to them, I told the girl I would like to pick some mochi which the fridge only open from their side. No response given. Then the packing lady exchanged task with the cashier so I mentioned second time that I need to pick mochi still no response. I have to say the third time to get the response. When I pay, I tot of giving them the coins and the packing lady saw i was dishing out coins and did not inform the cashier who seem too engaged in her task. I pass the coins to them on the table. Continue to be ignored until cashier counted enough coins change back. And it was kinda rude to have the coins all fall on the floor. Very unpleasant.
Tried the Portuguese egg tart. Its crunchy, very crunchy and the pastry still kinda sweet for my taste. Its the next best thing to the Porto egg...
Read moreI JY SHENG at Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 1 is a great option for travelers, especially those with early morning flights.
This bakery opens very early, at 6:00 AM, when other shops are not yet open. This makes it very convenient to buy bread before your flight.
Their bread selection is very diverse, especially their delicious savory options. These breads are perfect for breakfast or a snack.
Additionally, the bakery's location is within the food court area. For those staying overnight at Terminal 1, this food court area often becomes a makeshift sleeping area while waiting for flights. Therefore, it is very easy to access I JY SHENG if you need food.
Overall, I JY SHENG offers convenience, variety, and satisfying flavors for travelers at Taoyuan International...
