(This is a review by someone visiting from the USA with their relatives helping, and who has some background knowledge of Taiwanese culture) Situated near one of the entrances of the fish market, this restaurant is easy to find. Seating was just a couple stalls away from the “main” storefront, at a large, clean wooden table area with fans providing good air flow in the hot humid environment. Wasabi packets and soy sauce is set out next to the chopsticks and sauce dishes, and wrappers can be tossed easily in the small garbage bin on the tabletop.
Be aware the fans will blow away the plastic sauce dishes and any tissues that aren’t weighed down. You may also need to say no to other stall staffs asking for your patronage on the way through the marketplace, but that’s common while you stroll through. The other downside of the marketplace itself (not so much the restaurant’s fault) is occasionally there will be a moped or two riding through. Not sure how that’s allowed but it happens. Also the bathrooms in the surrounding areas don’t have toilet paper and sinks are around the corner from them, so bring some tissues and hand sanitizer just in case.
The food is fresh, well portioned, well priced, and beautifully presented. We ordered fried oysters, fried squid, a vegetable dish, steamed egg with seafood, some hand rolls, and a few donburi bowls. Everything was delicious! Even with limited understanding of reading the Chinese menu, the server used Google translate for any questions I had, and even accommodated dish alteration requests from family members. The server was polite and always friendly, and helped our group on both days we came to eat.
Highly recommended, and I will definitely be coming back here the next...
Read moreHoly moly! I have found my must go sushi place! A friend told us about the Huaqiao Fish Market. There are tons of sushi stalls in the market. So I’m sure you could find many others gems there. But we tried this one because of good reviews and this place did not disappoint! Their fish is so fresh and you can’t beat the price. Compared to what you have to pay at sushi restaurants in the bigger cities, it’s so worth it. If you are a sushi lover and you happen to be passing by Pingtung, you have to check...
