I have never posted any review in google about anything before, but, after going through all the past reviews for this restaurant and noticing those reviews with low ratings, I decided to put my two cents here.
In any consumer oriented industry, it is not unusual to have positive or negative feedbacks from customers. But, in the case of Tandoor Indian Restaurant, I think it will be unfair if it receives any setbacks due to those few bad experiences (faced by some other customers many years ago). So, I would like to put my reviews about few things what I have noticed during my last couple of visits to Tandoor.
Location: I always prefer to go and have my lunch/dinner at a place which is easily accessible from my home/hotel. Easy in the sense of I can ride or drive there and park my vehicle at a properly assigned place. A person who lives in Taipei knows very well about the struggle to find a proper place in order to park his/her vehicle. Being at the heart of the city, I had the concept that it will be near to impossible to find a parking spot for my vehicle at Tandoor. Additionally, Tandoor is a little bit far from my home. So, also being lazy person to take the MRT or any other public transport, I always skipped the idea to visit Tandoor. Couple of months ago, coincidently, one of my friends organized a party at Tandoor and I finally agreed to go there. As always, I was skeptical about the parking for my vehicle there but went anyway. To my surprise, there were (at least) two (self-operated) paid parking areas to park your heavy motorbikes or cars nearby Tandoor with enough empty parking slots. Additionally, there is a free parking place for scooters with white number plates and it is next to the rear entrance of the restaurant (Tandoor has two entrances). So, for this accessibility, I would definitely like to rate Tandoor 5 out of 5.
Food Quality: Over the years, I have tried food at many Indian Restaurants across Taiwan. Whichever city I visit/live in Taiwan, I try to find the quality Indian Restaurant which gives thrills to my taste buds and I keep going to that one for multiple times during my stay/visits. India is a diverse country and we also practice a diverse food culture. If you travel from North to South, South to West or West to East part of India, the difference in the food culture is clearly visible. But, in few Indian Restaurants across Taiwan, often you will see this diversity in food culture is disappearing. Being an Indian and living far away from home, I usually don’t appreciate that fusion (or poor recipe!) and apparently strike out those particular restaurants from my list. Obviously, before my first visit to Tandoor I was also skeptical about the food quality. But, now after couple of visits to Tandoor, I can say that they have truly raised the bar of Indian Restaurants in Taiwan by bringing more authenticity in their recipe and their menu is worth to give it a try. For food quality (at least for the items which I tried, especially the Vegetarian items and desserts) I would like to give them 5 out of 5.
Ambience and Hospitality: I have seen in the past few reviews, some people are not satisfied with the ambience (or interior) and hospitality at Tandoor. To me, these two things may vary from perspectives of person to person. Tandoor is a big and spacious restaurant and during my visits, I always went with a group of friends. So, the “big and spacious” quality of Tandoor gave us all the comfort we wanted and from my perspective the ambience was cozy for family/friends gathering. Regarding hospitality, I don’t have any idea how was it previously. But during my last visits I didn’t see any rude/unusual behaviours and in fact (from my perspective) I found them very friendly. Thus, for Ambience and Hospitality also I would give...
Read moreFOOD: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The quality of the food was spectacular. The curry was rich and full of flavor.
SERVICE: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The service staff that we encountered were probably the most friendly staff that we have encountered in Taiwan ever. They can also speak fluent English and Mandarin (the menu is also in English and Mandarin). The staff were a little inexperienced but with a little guidance and training they have the potential to be great. Recommendation on a meal from the staff was great! She was knowledgeable on the menu and took the time to listen to what I would to have and customized the meal slightly for me so that we don't have overlapping flavors (this was very impressive) The staff served us with a smile and positive attitude constantly which made our experience at the restaurant such a memorable one. The owner (or we think is the owner) approached our table at the end of our meal and first thing he asked us was would we want some desert, which would of been fine but we felt pressured to order something and he stood at our table waiting for us to order, which made us pretty uncomfortable and it felt like he was pushing us to order more than what we wanted.
CLEANLINESS: ⭐⭐⭐ The restaurant looked like it was missing some decorations from what we saw in the photo's on Google Maps. We didn't spot anything immediate that we would consider "dirty" however there were a lot of bug zappers on the floor in the restaurant which would lead us to think there are some small insects in the restaurant often. We saw a few but not enough to really annoy us.
PRICE: ⭐⭐ I think price wise is the biggest down fall. For the portion that we received I think it was pretty expensive compared to other places in Taiwan.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Recommendations for the restaurant I think the restaurant could have had some of the basic operations for business ready before customers walk into the door such as having the music in the background playing before the customers enter the door. When the owner (or I think was the owner) approached our table, he could maybe introduce himself, ask us how our meal was or maybe some light small talk to make the silence of the restaurant less apparent. Keep up the amazing food (complements to the chef/cook) and the staff members were so warm and positive.
Would I visit this restaurant again? Most definitely, I would love to visit the restaurant a lot more often. Unfortunately the price makes it a little challenging... I look forward to...
Read moreI recently visited Tandoor Indian food Restaurant in Taipei and had a mixed experience. While the service was excellent, the food did not quite meet expectations.Even the quantity was not enough for the price we have been charged. The staff was warm, welcoming, and very attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining atmosphere. They were quick to assist, making sure everything was served properly and with great hospitality. However, the food lacked the authentic flavors I was hoping for. The dishes felt a bit underwhelming in terms of taste and seasoning. Some items lacked the richness and spice balance that one would expect from authentic Indian cuisine. Overall, if you value great service and a cozy ambiance, Tandoor Indian food Restaurant does deliver. But if food quality is a top priority, there might be better options in Taipei for...
