Quite possibly the saddest nachos and burrito that I have ever tasted / seen. Disappointing even for airport food. Commercially processed ‘avocado’. Bagged chips and tortillas. Small portions. Premium price for Taipei.
This is not to be rude. This place has no business claiming that the quality is beyond frozen. It’s on-par with 7-11 but is charging premium prices. (See other reviews).
I wasn’t expecting much from Taipei regarding latin food, but the guacamole was almost certainly made from pre-bagged avocados (there was an unmistakeable citric acid / preservative taste) and was $35 NTD for what was about 30 grams.
The attached picture was even after ordering “double meat”, which we confirmed was correct when the food arrived. Bagged chips, no onions, shallot, cilantro, lime, cheese was pathetic (you can see that there are 12-15 strands, and they aren’t even melted properly), and the sour cream was supermarket quality.
My standard for a 1-star review: if it was free, it wouldn’t be worth the calories.
Worst part: every negative review that the business has responded to has ignored the issues or blamed the customer. The business keeps talking about “imported ingredients” too. My friend: it’s masa flour to make corn tortillas, and you dunk the (usually old) tortillas into a deep frier to make chips. It’e dead simple. Everyone in Taipei makes fresh bao or scallion pancakes by hand, so please don’t tell me you can’t add water and masa in a mechanical mixer. You’re also adding rice (please don’t tell me that’s imported) and lettuce, along with canned tomatoes, pork, and beef. You just sound silly or bad at business when you say everything...
Read morePassed by this place previously and thought it had potential. Upon visiting at a later date, I was extremely disappointed.
A couple of things of note: -While waiting for my friend, I noticed one of the workers coughing without a mask and then immediately proceed to make someone’s food. I realize it’s a small place but that’s a huge issue for me -There’s only 2-3 seats and most of their customers get to go -You have to approach them to order as it’s not really apparent where to go to order
Overall, the food was priced decently so I decided to overlook these other issues and order. I immediately realized I was going to regret my decisions.
The burritos they served me and my friend were half hot, half cold. I’ve never had a burrito served like this and was immediately skeptical. After I took a couple of bites, the entire thing began falling apart even when I held it firmly.
The tomatoes they use for their salsa really need to be diced up more. The chips they give you to dip into the salsa cannot handle the huge chunks of tomatoes and it was not a fun time, especially on their little table.
Overall, I had a pretty bad experience here but it may have been isolated. If they’re willing to change these things or I hear from someone else that they have changed, I’d be willing to come back. But as of now, I would NOT come back and will not be recommending this...
Read moreI had the barbacoa burrito, and it was good. I wouldn't say it's the best in Taipei, and definitely not the best I've ever had. If you're in the area and you want a burrito, this will at least hold that craving at bay.
The flavour was fine -- again, not the best that I've had, but good enough that one could identify it as barbacoa -- and each component was good. The burrito is slightly cheaper than other equivalent Mexican places in Taipei for a reason, though: the isn't much meat in the thing! It simply felt like a typical costing-down situation to hit a new/better price point, but I would have been happy to pay a bit more for a decent amount of protein in there.
Portioning overall for the burrito was adequate, and would be sufficient to be lunch, or close-to-full (for me). (I did want to have something else after, so ended up going somewhere else.)
The girl staffing the booth (there are 3 stools on the sidewalk, next to the bar where she does cashier work) is nice, and the place is decorated nicely.
All in all, I have removed it from my "starred" list because of the above, and also because (not their fault necessarily) its location is not as convenient to me for (in my opinion) equal or...
