Spice up TZ — Restaurant in Dar es-Salaam

Spice Up is a lovely restaurant in Upanga that has great barbecued food. The staff were super friendly and the food came within 10 minutes. They asked us our spice tolerance on our orders. The menu is quite extensive and the staff said everything was available! We ordered their Spice Up special chicken and the 'Mwendokasi' chicken, both of which were great. Their Spice Up special is not for the faint hearted - it is loaded with spices, so even when it's not hot, it is quite an experience! And they are all very reasonably priced, too. You know this is a family restaurant when you see "family portions" being provided for most items.

The restaurant is ideally located in Upanga (near Muhimbili Hospital). It is extremely spacious with spread out seating, which means one can have conversations without disturbing the ones sitting next to you - a problem I often face in Indian barbecue places (I am guessing, also COVID-friendly, but who cares these days!). They also have a small play area to keep kids occupied. They also have a big screen and projector to play music, watch sports - thankfully, the volume isn't too loud to drown out conversations.

They also have a collaboration with the famous Snoopy's in Dar - their food and desserts menu is also provided, and they have a small kiosk in the restaurant.

I am definitely coming...

Not my 1st time being at Spice up but today was worst! Waiter first came to us and was looking at us waiting to order like the menu was in my head. Had to ask for the menu! Ordered and she left the menu on the table throughout my dining. Although all this was okay, as I was not expecting high class service, but I saw a big fly on my plate after eating and I showed the waiter and she said sorry but did nothing! All she said she is going to show the chef. Well I was expecting to see some taking responsibility and maybe cut my bill in half or atleast half on what I order if not the complete bill. Definitely need to work on their customer service! N I'm not looking forward to going there anytime...

Pros Great food choices for the Indian community, spiced taste, local atmosphere. Lots of space to accommodate around 50 people inside and 40 others outside. Parking available with local watchmen on the patrol. Teamed up with Raudhat sugar world for exciting icecream entrees. Prices of both food and icecream are well balanced.
