Kuonana Africa Restaurant — Restaurant in Kilimanjaro

Our family went to Kuonana for lunch and waited patiently for nearly an hour and a half. We got there when the place was completely empty. We ordered food and as we waited, more and more people arrived. As we watched folks sit, speak to the staff and receive their drinks and food, we wondered if we were getting the service we got because we were Americans. I called the waiter to our table to see what the hold up was and he acted like I was speaking an unknown language. We were given no answer for the slow service. We had our children with us and they weren’t tearing the place down, they were talking amongst themselves and being well behaved as usual. We got fed up with such abysmal treatment and we left. This experience was the worst we’ve had since being in Tanzania. There’s no valid excuse for such service. Needless to say, we won’t be going back.

Visited the restaurant based on great reviews of Tripadvisor, interestingly when I asked about this place at my hotel and several moto taxi drivers nobody knew this place. So I had to navigate them myself. It was 3.000 Tsh from the Moshi downtown. The restaurant is very small and basic but the food is delicious. They basically only have 2 traditional meals variating whether you want beef, pork or chicken. I took the first option in beef and it was delicious. I love, love, LOVE Kuonana restaurant. I’m a solo traveler from the US who loves to find restaurants with great food and customer service, and I must say that finding this restaurant met all those desires.
