What a beautiful place! In a few words: Incredibly delicious swahili food in a very well kept colourful and peaceful, topped by the friendliness and warmhearted hospitality.... Having spent many years in TZ as a resident and visitor and visited Zanzibar numerous times I believe to know my share of local cuisine and hopsitality scene. This place really surprised me and was a true pleasure!
If you want to experience swahili food, swahili cuisine, you need to visit. In the we spent 3 evening dinners there and would have been more, if we had noticed it earlier. I can't point out specific dishes, cause we basically ate through the whole menu and depending on taste, everyone was happy. BUT, definately focus on the local dishes. Also because it's rare to get and they were outstanding.
TIP: place your order in advance!! Give them a call throughout the day, reserve and order your food, that will save you waiting time. Alternatively, go early and enjoy the garden during waiting time, which may take - BUT definately worth it.
@Stone Village Team: BIG COMPLIMENT, keep it up you are doing so many things right!! Far beyond the quality of food! (For what it's worth this comes from a guy who knows the challenge - formerly restaurant manager in Arusha/TZ & Munich/Germany... )
Side note, when you walk home the neighbours dog gang - who are very friendly - will accompany you home when walking. We were staying down the road at Promissed Land lodge and every night they'd come to greet and walked us...
Read moreLet's start with the fact that majority of the recommended restaurants are all at resorts, nothing wrong with that but more towards seafood platters fish/calamari or prawn with chips/rice etc, nothing really popped up with real traditional food. And then we saw the signs directing us to Stone Village Restaurant. There are 2 signs for stone village restaurant on the main road, which still makes it a little hard to find. Also the Google pin is incorrect best would be to reach out beforew hand and get the directions as it's quite easy to reach once you know.
Then entering the restaurant area, it's like a little gem in paradise. Set in the garden with paper lanterns, soft jazz and 2 tables - private dining experience.
The menu was hard to read as we don't know the food terms(also International food available) but decided to go with the chef recommdadtion the green banana and coconut seafood which was absolutely delicious.
The service is prompt, and even the chef (lady off the house) came out to say hi.
Food like this can only be made with love. Thank you for great food...
Read moreI cannot recommend this place enough! Kizimkazi is a small area that for days we fell in the trap of eating at the expensive resorts until we found this gem! The food here is INCREDIBLE. The swahilli briani is one of my favourite dishes I have ever had. The price is so much more reasonable than anything else in the area and the portions are amazing.
What makes this place is the incredible staff. At the front is their eldest sons, and their two little ones served us, while the owners (their parents) cooked. They are truely some of the kindest happiest people and to top it off, their food is incredible. I seriously wish I found this place earlier.
It is in an excellent location and is lit up beautifully at night with little fairy lights and calm music. My friends and I (a group of 15) found ourselves chatting and sitting here for 3 hours today because of how relaxing it was.
Dont make the mistake of visiting Kizimkazi and skipping this place. ps: the chocolate cake is...
