We ended up picking this place randomly on our way up to the Big Buddha. It has a beautiful wooden outdoor seating area exposed to the elements, on the with a view of the forest below and the city farther out. The staff were extremely friendly, accommodating and gave recommendations.
The food was stellar. We were a little hesitant after seeing a menu with 300 items on it. However, this was the best Thai food we had on our visit to Phuket. The highlights were the BBQ fish and BBQ tiger prawns which we requested a red curry preparation. The fish was a delicate white fish grilled perfectly with a light butter sauce and served with garlic butter. The tiger prawns were huge and had a delicious red curry masala/marinade. The Tom Yam soup was wonderfully spicy, and the papaya salad was among the best we tried in the city.
We tried some of the local starters from the front page of the menu. The prawn fritters were whole prawns on a leaf deep fried in batter (kind of like a pakora). These were tasty, but not for my family as we're not used to eating whole prawns (with the shell). The other local appetizer was a steamed fish wrapped in banana (?) leaves with green curry sauce. This was really good.
Other things we tried and liked were a stir fried red curry beef dish and a chicken red curry (I suppose we were in a red curry mood). Surprisingly, the garlic bread was also awesome! Highly recommend stopping here for food before or after visiting the Big Buddha. The fresh seafood was (naturally) a little pricey, but in line with what we had spent elsewhere on the island. The rest of the dishes were reasonable and affordably priced.
(Regarding the elephant, we did see one nearby, but I'm pretty sure the establishment that had it was separate from this restaurant, and they didn't seem to be mistreating or physically abusing it when...

I stopped at this restaurant and had a few things to eat including a cool beer. Right next door is the ATV Seaview on tour, which has a few young elephants, if you are in the area you should stop, grab a bite and...
