First Visit to the Black Forest Restaurant, and Also the Last
It was my last night in Chiang Mai, with an early flight the next morning. I decided to have a final dinner with friends, but I didn’t expect such an unpleasant experience.
Worried that my friends might try to pay the bill first, I gave the staff a deposit of 2,000 THB. When it was time to settle the bill, they said it wasn’t enough—the total was 3,215 THB. I gave another 2,000 THB to the front desk staff, and then they asked for another 150 THB. I was confused, but since my friend insisted on paying that part, I didn’t think much of it. I gave her 150 THB, and they returned 40 THB in change.
Something felt off, so I asked the front desk about it. They claimed I had only given them 1,000 THB. I was sure I handed over two pieces of 1,000 THB notes, plus the 150 THB later. How could 1,000 THB be missing?
The staff at the front desk denied it. I asked to review the CCTV footage, and they called in the accountant or possibly the manager. After watching the footage, they claimed I had only given one 1,000 THB note. I insisted they recheck the video, the second it clearly showed I handed over two notes. But then they changed their story, saying it was one 1,000 THB note and one 100 THB note.
The sizes of the 1,000 THB and 100 THB notes are completely different, and I only had one 100 THB note in my wallet—the rest were all 1,000 THB notes. Still, they refused to admit it. They said they had checked their accounts and everything was correct on their end.
They told me if I wanted to get my money back, I could report it to the police. I didn’t care about losing money, but the fact that a Michelin-starred restaurant would blatantly deny what happened in front of a customer was outrageous.
Since I had an early flight the next day, and I wanted my friends to get some rest, I decided to let it go. But this kind of behavior was infuriating.
As for the food, it was on par with other places, nothing particularly special. The environment, while spacious, felt rough and unfinished, with noisy water sounds in the dining hall. Those things didn’t bother me much—after all, the point of a gathering is to enjoy yourself. But the way they handled this situation was completely absurd. How did this place even earn a Michelin rating? It’s...
Read moreThis place is very nicely decorated, and the food are pretty good. Their main target clientele is large groups of Chinese tourists. The pricing of this restaurant is higher than most of the same quality in Chiang Mai. I got nothing to complain, but I’ll be honest, I am...
