I stopped by Boat Bakery because it was pretty busy (good sign), but they still had a few tables open. I ordered a fried crab over rice. Not sure what I received (didn't look like the photo and was not fried), but no big deal, I'll try this. Turns out it was shredded crab, but it had almost no flavor. (It was the most bland dish I've eaten in Thailand.) I borrowed some condiments (fish sauce, soy sauce, some kind of chili stuff) from a nearby empty table to try to add some flavor. That helped, but I kept coming across inedible hard bits of shell in the dish. Every fourth bite or so had shell in it - including one thin, sharp, pointed bit that seemed more like a small fish bone?) Nice atmosphere, though. Lots of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. They had room for large groups. Waiter was friendly. (Water didn't get refilled, but maybe that's not a thing at every...

Classic diner style spot of our childhood, still serving good food with a nice variety of items to choose from. A lot of the staff here are familiar faces, which is a nice touch too.

Parking out front can be a little tight, but there is an allocated parking lot around the back.

We usually go by quite early for breakfast, dishes are reasonably priced and well portioned, our favourite item is the deep fried chicken. Mornings are a great time to drop by, when they've just fried up their first batch for the day. So crispy and juicy!

Another favourite of ours - besides the cute breakfast sets of 2 eggs, 2 slices of toast with butter and jam, choice of ham/sausage/bacon, and choice of hot beverage - is the stir-fried greens we call Ka-Na (Thai/Chinese Kale) with pork cutlet and an extra fried egg over rice. 🤭 An awesome breakfast that gets us going...

Maybe I came too early, the waiters here are not very patient. When I ordered, she looked confused and didn't know what menu was on it, and looked like she just woke up. Then when she served the food, she was very reluctant, threw the bread on the table and left. OK, it's not bad enough, I finished my meal and told another waiter that I could pay the bill, but the waiter still looked confused, and left after listening, without helping me to pay the bill or asking others to help me to pay the bill, and after a while she actually started to touch up her makeup. It wasn't until I called another waiter to pay the bill that she came to help me to pay the bill after a while. I don't understand what happened in this store, if it's too early and the employees don't want to work, they can find...

I will start with that in that area near uni is impossible now to find something vegetarian on Sundays (other days there are very limited options). So we were hungrily strolling around until we tried to look at the Boat's menu. English speaking waitresses instantly ensured us they can make everything vegetarian. I've ordered papaya salad and had zero faith it will come without fishy smell, but it did! And it was delicious and spiced per my request and not more. The other food (pad Thai tofu) was ok, I can't say it was devine but it was really ok and Im really grateful for their flexibility and afford to satisfy our needs.

My experience with the Boat Restaurant was highly disappointing. I’ve lived in Chiang Mai for over a year and have tasted quite a few dishes from various restaurants and cafes. This was by far the worst. The customer service was subpar; the waiter didn’t even look at me when he came to take my order and I had to hunt him down to pay the bill. I ordered the cashew nut chicken and my dish came to the table lukewarm, at best. When i looked at it I noticed that there wasn’t any chicken in it, just fried chicken skin to make the appearance of chicken. Literally no chicken on the entire plate. I will not be returning.
