[KOR,ENG]
"Unlimited Refill"
I had a terrible experience with racial bias in Thailand. I visited a restaurant alone and ordered a set menu for one. I refilled the garlic, chili peppers and rice—though the meat was a bit dry, it was fine. As you can see from the photo, the first serving of rice was only half-full, so I refilled it.
Take a look at the menu photo and judge for yourself. The term "Unlimited Refill" is clearly stated, with the list of items below it. There's no note or condition mentioned. Logically, rice should be included in the unlimited refill items.
However, when I went to pay, I noticed an extra charge for the rice. I asked why, explaining that I had ordered a set menu, and rice should be free. They insisted multiple times that rice is only served once. I pointed out the "Unlimited Refill" line and asked why rice wasn't included. They claimed it only applied to certain foods and excluded lettuce and rice. I asked where this was stated on the menu, and they repeated the same response.
I asked for a manager, but they brought over another staff member who spoke even less English. Despite not understanding me, they kept speaking in Thai. I said, "I’m not Thai. I don’t speak Thai," and they finally turned on a translator app.
Their main point was that rice is a side dish and is not included in the unlimited refill. I countered by pointing out its placement under the "Unlimited Refill" section on the menu. The conversation went nowhere.
Then came the highlight: "If you were Thai, you would understand rice isn’t included." It was one of the most blatantly biased comments I’ve ever heard!
To conclude, I had the charge for rice removed after a prolonged and unnecessary back-and-forth. If you’re curious to experience this level of customer service well…. Save ur time and money!
This experience stemmed from my desire to address what I felt was an unfair situation. During my two months in Thailand, most of the restaurants I visited had kind owners and staff who provided excellent service, but this place was a stark exception.
Considering how many great Korean restaurants there are in Chiang Mai, I wouldn’t recommend this one. The communication was poor, and the service was severely lacking. It’s not worth the visit.
The food? Not bad The facilities? Average. The service? Absolutely unforgettable—for all the...
Read moreReally fantastic! We came in for lunch wanting something tasty but easy on the stomach, and Mashitta was perfect. Kimbab was super filling and came with side dishes, a deal for 80B. Steamed egg was wonderful, savoury and delicate and again a massive serving for only 40B. Cucumber and egg side dish (free) was light and tasty, found a few egg shells in mine but it was still the best side dish. Kimchi soup was quite tangy and only mild spicy, cabbage in it was delicious! Staff were polite and nice, there was a massive standing AC keeping the restaurant was cool, and speakers quietly played a mix of Korean and Western pop songs. Powerful extractor tubes over the tables meant there wasn't an overpowering BBQ smell from the other tables grilling. There's a single bathroom which is reasonably clean and smells fresh. A great place to relax with a meal while waiting for the bus. Free WiFi also. Highly...
Read moreThis is for Food Panda order: Kimbab tasted too bland. You need to blanch the vegetables and flavor the rice, along with vegetables with salt and sesame oil. Tangsuyuk(Korean sweet and sour pork) was more like a stew. The sauce needs to be very thick and sticky, not watery like the Thai style sweet and sour pork. Kimchi was tasty, definitely prepared by a Korean, and other side dishes were also excellent. 4. My favorite steamed egg dish was cooked perfectly. 5. The Kimchi stew, which I didn't order (complimentary?) was very tasty. I would definitely include it on my next order. Overall, we enjoyed our Korean dinner and hope improvements would be made. We would definitely visit the restaurant next time and...
