GŌKANA OMAKASE — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

I was really looking forward to trying this place. It’s been on my radar for a while. My friend and I wanted to go for lunch, and we stopped by at noon during a weekday. We were told that they were fully booked for the day, so we tried to make a reservation for the next day. That was fine, but the manager wanted us to make a full deposit with the reservation. For me, this is a non-starter. Either you trust your (local) customers to honor reservations (especially when made in person the day before) or you don’t. A nice evening to celebrate special occasion. 18-course omakase (small bites course) in a hidden location nearby Central Festival. Loved the ambiance inside once walked in. All of the dishes were of high-quality ingredients. Though I felt some of them were overcomplicated, for example, one dish with scallop, uni, truffles, caviar, tobiko (and the sauce is already very rich in itself!) I found overwhelming. Food is excellent. We pick regular for the first time. They served a bit fast and don’t have time enough to enjoy the bite. I feel that they are in a hurry. After we left we were still hungry. Worth for the price, I don’t know as food mostly are imported but 12 bites instead of 15-16 as said is wierd and not enough for a meal even we are not a big eater.
