The Vegano Bistro — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

I’m not sure what I think. I’ll have to try it again to decide. Heard many good things about here but sadly didn’t get that experience myself. I nearly left the moment I arrived with my young daughter due to the rude service. We were ignored and then they wouldn’t let us sit where we wanted. Yet they let other random walk in customers sit there. It’s like they didn’t want our custom.

Whilst ordering they seemed annoyed. I was told the mushroom soup was unavailable. So I went and rethought my order but then later was told anything mushroom was unavailable. Wish I had known that when they said the soup was finished.

The hot chocolate was average, boring not a lot of flavour. Expensive for what you get. Waited 15 mins to get our drinks. Then waited more than 25+ mins for our food. The menu looks very interesting with lots of options and variety. The country fries were ok, potatoes a bit firm but still not bad. The cauliflower brioche sandwich was delicious!! Really enjoyed the sandwich.

I kept smiling and being polite. I said thank you to the waitress for everything she brought over to us. I hate when people are rude to the staff in restaurants. But basically we were ignored. No smile back. No ka. Nothing! Just walked away and ignored us. I even called to get her attention to ask a question and she ignored me. Just banged the food on the table and walked away.

The man was friendly than the women. He did acknowledge us and was polite. But sadly we didn’t have much interaction with him. I observed his service and he was polite.

I felt unwelcome as a farang. Not something I like to say. But honestly that’s what I observed from the female team member and how I felt. I even spoke in Thai to her to see if that made her more comfortable, but she...

The whole store is vegan, so no worries about egg and dairy sensitivities. In addition, select items can be gluten-free too (but not the pad thai sauces, vegan bacon, and croutons- beware the labelling). Lots of pastabilities with GF spaghetti or angelhair pasta. I've never been disappointed with their unique gourmet food, always satisfied. Desserts include smoothie bowls, pure coconut ice cream with classic Thai toppings, and chia seed pudding- will have to come back often to try them. They also have a good selection of baked goods that vary, so they aren't on the menu. I just had the macaroons, and they are so divine i gobbled it and then swept the crumbs into my mouth! I tried the Green Burger and Greek salad by delivery. The flavours were amazing. The burger was a good size, wasn't difficult to hold, and didn't fall apart or was stacked too high. It was topped with typical items, which I prefer. The patty had good texture and a mild taste. The salad was more complex than I expected, with 3 kinds of beans added and nice greens, not standard head lettuce. The faux feta was excellent. The dressing was so good!

The price is a little higher than average for CM, and I wish the salad was bigger, but I recommended it fully. A gem of a place south of...
