(First time review, update below) Amazing experience! Staff were genuinely kind and quick to serve, we felt really welcome at this place. We had smoothies which not only tasted precisely like the fruits but also "felt" like them. I don't really know how to explain this, just try it yourself and go for the melon types. The dry ramen special I had was mind blowing, as well as the different types of maki we had. Everything was perfectly spiced and came decently sized. Again, the service was really quick, the food super fresh, very impressive. A few of the girls speak really good English actually, no need to worry about communication. The atmosphere was very warm and we enjoyed ourselves very much. Absolutely coming back here! (Updated review) Service and food was great the first time we came here, not as much the second time but acceptable. We are certainly coming back though I suggest any of their sushi, tempura, pork or chicken dishes, so basically everything... The ramen sadly tasted rather poor though, expected a fuller flavour, maybe it was just that day though, s**t happens. The smoothies are amazing, especially the melon tastes. Come here early or try to reserve a table, some of the staff speak fairly good English.

Heard so much about this place from a friend so decided to check it out for myself. The sashimi is ocean fresh and sliced to perfect. Each piece is the exact same thickness which helps retains the texture. At 169b, it's value for money, in my opinion. The udon was pricey considering the small portion and bland nature. The Tonkatsu Don or pork cultet, you can tell the chef has given much thought about the kind of bread crumbs. It was also fried to perfection. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Like the famous Taiwanese pork cultet that I love so much. I highly recommend this place. They didn't receive 5 stars because the wait staff serving us is sloppy and made several basic errors. Room for improvement in this domain.

As a person who has lived in Japan, I'm a sushi and ginger snob. I've tried a few places in Thailand in different cities (I've been living here for a year) and I'm not exaggerating when I say this was probably the best I've had in this country. It's a small, unassuming shop on the street but they do a good job. There's not a lot of selection but I'll take quality over quantity. Also, every time I've tried ginger in Thailand it tastes horrible and soapy. This place has wonderful ginger and I was delighted. I went right around dinner time and they were pretty busy.

Tsunami is my favorite japanese restaurant in Chiang Mai for one main reason: the lively atmosphere! It is a very open space, with a laid back and unpredenting feel that attracts a young local crowd. The food is great, freshly cut before your eyes, service is really fast and the menu diverse enough, so no mistake in this department, and it is very good value...even cheap by local standards. But sitting around the open kitchen on the street side is what really makes this place such a draw. The everpresent and eversmiling thai owner is very friendly and pokes jokes constantly at his staff and engages all his customers in a friendly and casual manner, while constantly slicing sashimis and preparing dishes. Tsunami is japanese food perfection served with the best of thai generosity! Best of...

First off food is great as always, on par with many of the other great Japanese restaurant in the area. However we came in and after being seated they forgot about us. We pointed out several dishes were coming for tables that arrived afterwards. We were told for 40 minutes our order (previously seen already delivered to 2 other tables) was been made. Just wait

We had a half the dishes delivered that were wrong and sent them back When we cancelled the food after half the order was delivered and asked for a discount for having to wait 40 minutes and being served after 4 tables (we could see in our half of the seating area) we were told no.

Food is great. Customer service is not so good. Seems there is no effort to address a cockup in waitresses...
