Maha Chai Seafood — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

Come here for dinner 3 days in a row . Seafood were fresh except the some dishes they tend to overcooked it ( cockles , squid ) however price was reasonable with a wide range to choose from . If you are really picky about the seafood crab shellfish , you can choose yourself from their outdoor counter however I didn’t . The crab I order wasn’t very fresh as it wasn’t sweet and crab meat do not feel firm . Nevertheless the rest that I order esp river prawn was the best I eaten in Thailand it was grilled to perfection huge and juicy . This used to be a wet fish shop where you could hand pick your seafood and then hand back your purchase for someone to cook up however you wanted, then sit at long tables in a type of warehouse, for a cheap and tasty impromptu meal. Still a fishmongers but now with a proper air-con restaurant attached and dedicated servers. Although this Chinese place doesn’t look fancy it has excellent fresh seafood. Choose prawns, crabs or shells yourself or let the stuff take care of it. Pay for the weight of chosen ingredients and additional for cooking - 30 baht for grilled and 50 for steamed, fried, boiled or added in yum.
