On Sundaythe 16th June, my party of six visited Joonlapak restaurant. While we appreciated the warm greeting and prompt seating, we encountered several challenges during our dining experience: Despite being the only customers initially, there was a noticeable delay in receiving our food. Surprisingly, another table that arrived after us received their orders before ours were completed.
I ordered the seabass, but it took multiple inquiries to receive any updates. As my guests finished their meals, my seabass finally arrived along with the seventh dish we had ordered. Unfortunately, by that time, the other table was well into their meal. The final dish arrived after we had settled the bill.
Regrettably, there was no communication from the kitchen or management regarding the delays. The lack of transparency left our party feeling neglected and frustrated. The professionalism of the kitchen staff was deplorable, and the absence of follow-up was disappointing and reflects poorly on the restaurant’s management, especially considering the lack of any apology or acknowledgment. As a result, I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to...
Read moreToo many reviews have talked about food already. I will adress ambiance. This is a very unique, chill and romantic restaurant situated in an old, classic, open-air, single floor wooden Thai home sitting 4 meters above ground. To my surprise its been open 2 years already. From the outside it looks almost abandoned. No signs in English. No typical Chang or Singh beer sign. The restaurant caters to couples, families and special ocassions for friends. Its definitely not a drinking establishment for the guys. Its located just down the road from the Le Meridian. The floor area is huge and allows for ample spacing between tables. The service is very professional and pleasant. They have music every night comprised of a young man and woman. The woman's voice is so "lovely". My wife and I tipped her twice.
This restaurant offers Thai beer at a reasonable price. While there isn't a wine list they do have some wines available for sale. Unfortunately i didn't see what choice they offered. We brought our own wine. The cork charge was 250 Baht.
We will most definitely go back to this place again, preferably as a couple and not...
Read moreHighly recommended. Ahan farang in Chiang Rai can be hit and miss. Not only because of the food. At Junlapak, they go out of their way to offer something fresh and creative, something the others don’t have. Of course, they cost more than the traditional raan khao tom by the roadside, but they also take the risk of doing something unusual. So when you’re ready to spend the money, you’ll be rewarded with a nice experience. One area where they should improve though is that their nice and friendly staff doesn’t know a lot about western food. I mean sure, they bring it from the kitchen to the table, but it seems they don’t eat it normally. And so your’re left with dishes that come without bread or any other filling side dishes. You have to order that as an extra and wait for it while the rest of your food gets cold. While one can see instances of this problem in other restaurants, too (such as appetizers coming after the main course), it should not happen at this price range. Extra bonus points for including tax and service in the menu, unlike those high-end...
