Roti Pa Yai — Restaurant in Chiang Rai Province

Seems like this place run by Muslim family and it’s local hidden gem).however a private transportation is highly recommended unless you are wandering around that area for some very well known restaurant , this place Could be a good place for after dinner Tea ( see below)

It’s common to see this type of restaurant / tea parlor in a very southern part of Thailand but to experience in Chiangrai it is authenticate )

Being Authentic in curry & Beef jerky ( or deep fried ) , I you are beef lover , order it with rice

I was really excited to come hear because of all the amazing reviews, so maybe my hopes were too high or I didn’t order the right things. Chicken Murtabak was disappointing, with no chicken pieces (I literally didn’t see any and went to ask, maybe they had mixed up the order - they hadn’t). I would call it potato murtabak, rather. It’s wasn’t bad, but just not with chicken. The accompaning small spicy salad was the best part of the whole experience. It was awesome! Northern Thai sausage was very tasty, maybe little bit too dry. I’ve had juicer in other palaces. Hot milky tea was very good. That’s sth I wouldn’t miss. All in all the food was pleasant. The reviews here are EXTREMELY misleading. There are only THREE curry options available and they are ALL meat - you CANNOT order Vegetarian here.

It's a locals haunt and is a drive out of the city. Having done so and discovered when arriving there was no vegetarian options, we bit the bullet and had the meat options, but avoided eating the meat in the curry where possible. It is disappointing having spent time in Malaysia, not finding a vegetarian option here. As the only genuine Roti Canai in Chiang Rai your options are limited.
