Same Same But Different Restaurant — Restaurant in Ko Lanta Yai

Overall review: i would say throughout our trip in Koh Lanta, this was the best food we had so far in thailand. Food was authentically thai and the atmosphere was second to none, placed at the beach side with a beautiful sunset view for dinner. The staff also provided us with mosquito repellent to keep away the sand flies and mosquito.

So here are the things we ate at this restaurant.

Somtam with fried chicken (rating 7/10) Review: somtam was really fresh and authentic thai spicy. Chicken was just at the dry side.

Clear soup Tomyam (rating 10/10) Authentic thai tomyam, not too sweet, enough spice and enough sourness. Really enjoyed their tomyam

Omellete (rating 7/10) Good and simple omellete but it was just slightly salty

Stir fried beef with oyster sauce (rating 8/10)

Really tender and they mix the seasonings...

Will not go back. The location of the restaurant is just fantastic. Unfortunately, the food and the waiters are not. We even had to ask for napkins once we were finished. Food was not our taste but I will not rate it because everybody has a different perception on food. It was just not ours.

But what really knocked the rating down was the immediate perception that this is a tourist trap. As a main course we ordered a fish and she immediately mentioned that it will be 500 gr. I was quite surprised but gave it a try. Unfortunately, it turned out what I was expecting: The fish was probably 150 gr in total and there was hardly anything to eat. Classical tourist trap behavior.

Well, I feel sorry for the restaurant as it could be something special but obviously...

By far the worst experience ever, after 15 years travelling in many countries I had never came across by such a rude owner. First of all the welcoming wasn’t appropriate but ok! I ordered a fish that was supposed to be fresh and honestly it wasn’t at all, I come from an island and I can easily recognise when is not fresh. Just a scam and super overpriced! But there it comes, the moment I kindly told him (owner) that the fish wasn’t good he got super rude and aggressive towards me and my girlfriend, yelling at us and kicking us out of the restaurant. The worst situation I ve ever had! Later I met a couple at the beach that saw the situation and told me that he was really rude to them too. I felt really intimidated by him!
