This place used to be one of our favorites—we’ve lived on the island for two years and came here often. But something’s changed lately. A couple of weeks ago, we waited over an hour without anyone even taking our order. No one cared.
Today we gave it another shot, showed up after some shopping, and got stopped at the entrance because we had bags with us. They said we couldn’t come in because we had a cooker (with no gas, obviously), and started talking about calling immigration—seriously?
We said we’d just grab a coffee, but apparently that’s not enough anymore. For the first time ever, we were told there’s a minimum spend of 300 baht per person. The place was almost empty, it was 11 a.m., and they were doing construction.
Honestly, the attitude was just rude. No way to treat regulars. Disappointing.
edit: Dear Cape Away Team,
Dear Cape Away Team,
Your public response is full of false accusations and completely unacceptable defamation. I had absolutely no intention of using your parking for free or exploiting your restaurant. I came prepared for a full day at the beach – that’s it.
Yes, I had my personal belongings with me. So what? That has absolutely nothing to do with the nonsense you wrote. You're making up a narrative that fits your version of events. If I had shown up wearing a baseball cap, would you have assumed I came to throw balls at your villa?
I intended to order a coffee first, then a proper meal – something I could have easily proven if your staff had simply allowed me to sit down. Instead, I was treated with immediate rudeness and suspicion.
Your waiter’s behavior was not only disrespectful – it was aggressive, humiliating, and completely out of line. The way he spoke to me and especially to my partner was unacceptable by any standard of hospitality. That alone deserves a one-star review.
No one was cooking in front of your villa. That’s a complete lie, and you know it. You’ve fabricated a story to justify mistreating someone who wasn’t breaking a single rule.
Mentioning photos as if it’s some kind of threat? Good – I have my own. So let’s not play that game. Your response on Google is not only dishonest – it’s slanderous. You’re trying to discredit me publicly for calling out the truth about how your staff...
Read moreWe’ve been living on the island for two years now, and this restaurant used to be one of our favorite go-to spots. Unfortunately, something has clearly changed, and we’ve had two disappointing experiences recently that made us reconsider ever coming back.
The first incident happened two weeks ago when we came to enjoy the sunset. The staff showed us to a table, and then we were left completely unattended for 30 minutes before even receiving the menu. After finally getting the menu, another 30 minutes passed without anyone checking on us or taking our order. In total, we spent an hour just lying on the beanbags, completely ignored, and left without ordering anything and went hungry to eat elsewhere.
Despite that, we decided to give the place another chance today because we used to love it so much. We came straight from shopping with some groceries and a small cooker, and the staff told us we couldn’t enter with our bags. I politely explained that I couldn’t leave my things on the scooter in the sun. They seemed more concerned that we might use the cooker to “burn down the beach,” even though it had no propane inside. We clearly explained that, but the situation escalated unnecessarily. The waiter even threatened to call immigration, which felt completely out of line and inappropriate.
We then tried to just sit and enjoy a coffee, but were told that unless we each spent a minimum of 300 baht, we couldn’t stay—despite the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty, it was 11 a.m., and they were doing construction work at the time. What’s even more disappointing is that in all the years we’ve been coming here, we have never, ever been asked to meet a minimum spend before so I can only guess it was a spiteful writer. We weren’t asking for sunbeds or anything fancy—just a table and a coffee. The waiter became rude, raised his voice, and told me I was being impolite for calmly expressing how we felt treated.
All in all, it was another extremely disappointing experience. I don’t know what’s happened to this place, but sadly it’s no longer what it used to be. Maybe owners should put a bit more car into...
Read moreChic establishment in bohemian island style. Visited on Sunday where the restaurant had a DJ turning up vibey ambient house.
Nicely laid out space for basking whether for meals or for enjoying beverages. Food was good - my khao soi was fantastic. Nicely done sweets - especially the coconut ice cream.
Design spot on with sun loungers and design sun parasols. Nice indoor section and interesting wine cellar and merchandise boutique - nicely airconditioned.
Funny staff - unfortunately not in a good way. Confused / lazy - either one of those / or both lol. Requested one drink to take home after asking for the bill. The bill was brought over but the drink to take home wasn't on there, and upon leaving I asked if the drink had been prepared; this man simply turned away to grab a fan and, in a way, told me to have a seat to "wait a moment". I am reasonably confident that this isn't how etiquettes work when a customer chases for an update on their order(s). One request really had nothing to do with the other. To add, some staff seemed to also have no clue of what rocket salad is on some of the menus that writes on the description. Training seems to be lacking - even to those who seems to have been working here for quite some time already (yes, I have been here more than twice - I remember some faces). If the service here can be more comprehensive, understood and cared for, this place would've earned a better rating.
Verdict: great place, good food and drinks; let down service from one of...
