Dinner alfresco style or indoor. But if dining alfresco, there are many mosquitoes around, so be sure to spray some insect repellent provided by the restaurant.
Ordered 3 pastas; Tom Yum penne with shrimp and mozarella, spicy seafood spaghetti and green curry spaghetti with shrimp. Others included a dish of white noodles, a side of Korean fried chicken, garlic and chili squid, with desserts of taro balls in coconut milk and a scoop of chocolate and coconut ice cream. Originally had wanted to order the 300g ribeye but unfortunately it wasn’t available that night.
All the mains came in generous portions. Tom yum penne was creamy and cooked with succulent pieces of chopped shrimp meat. However, macaroni was used instead of penne. The pasta was well coated with the sauce, add a splash of lime and that acidity works well to balance the flavours and creaminess. The spicy seafood spaghetti was cooked similar to aglio olio style only with more ingredients like fresh peppercorns, chilies etc The seafood was plump and fresh. Similarly, the green curry spaghetti also came with plump and juicy shrimps, plus the green curry is only mildly spicy. The dish of white noodles came with lots of veggies but it only tasted average.
As for the sides, the garlic and chili squid was crispy and delicious, it was fried with lots of garlic and fresh peppercorn. And as usual the Korean fried chicken never disappoints and is one of our favourites.
I had taro balls in coconut milk for my dessert and it was really good. You can really taste the taro in the taro balls and they aren’t simply just made of glutinous rice flour like those found in many places. These balls are soft yet had that slight chewy bite to it, in 3 words, I love it!
Pricing of the items were reasonable for the quality of the ingredients used and the generous size of each portion.
The service was excellent, with the servers being very friendly, attentive and patient. We sat outdoors, though there was no live music on that night of visit, but music off from the ‘records’ were equally fine. The cool and breezy outdoors, with lovely background music and delicious food, really makes a wonderful dinner.
Parking is also easy and free as in most of the dining places here in Khao Yai.
I would dine here again if I get the chance to have another...
Read moreBeautifully decorated restaurants serving Western, Japanese and Thai Food. This suited us very well because our group consisted of 4 adults and 4 children. The adults love Thai food whereas the kids are keener on Japanese and Western dish. The owner (or manager) could speak very good English. Having ordered Som Tam, Green curry and Grilled Prawns, we were contemplating another meat dish. She recommended us the restaurant “hot” item, the German Pork Knuckle. True enough, it was delicious and it complimented the Thai dishes we ordered very well. Tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. It was definitely a must try. Meanwhile, the kids had Chicken Teriyaki rice and Fish & Chips. Those were good too. Nice deco aside, the restaurant even had a live band. It wasn’t that expensive as well. Although you would be able to find cheaper restaurants in the area, we felt it was worth it. Given that kind of ambience, setting and food quality, it would have costed us twice as...
Read moreExcellent location. Ample parking and elevated seating makes for an enjoyable experience. Waitstaff attentive without being intrusive. Very much Thai fusion menu choices and served dishes showed heavy western infuence while retaining Thai flavors. We were informed that current chef is Thai national trained through hotel chain. Meals were of excellent quality and adequate size portions. We have eaten at 12 different establishments in this area over the past 4 days. We are an Australian and Thai couple who run a busy restaurant in Australia. We would recommend Khunkhao station over all others we have tried, pricing was higher than other establishments however this was reflected in the quality...
