Salsa Mexicana at Kamala Beach is the kind of place you find when you’re not really looking—tucked away above the waves, where the Andaman Sea sprawls out beneath a sky that shifts from blue to gold. It’s not fancy, but it’s got heart, and that counts for more than some slick, polished joint that forgets why people come to places like this in the first place.
The food? You’ll find a chimichanga here that’s fried to a perfect golden crisp, the kind that crunches just right when you cut into it, revealing that warm, seasoned filling inside. It’s the stuff you crave when you’re miles from home and want a taste of something familiar but with a little more adventure. Next to it, another fried parcel, like its slightly rounder cousin, waits to be cracked open and devoured. This isn’t fine dining, but it’s damn satisfying.
The sides are simple: a mound of seasoned rice with bits of corn that add a touch of sweetness and balance the richness of the fried goods. A small cup of salsa sits to the side, ready to add a kick to every bite, and a little salad with sliced tomatoes and a carrot rose—because, why not? It’s not going to win any design awards, but it shows someone cares enough to add a little flair.
But it’s the setting that gets you. A view that stretches out over the sea, with a breeze that makes the hot sun feel like a welcome companion. You sit back, sip on a cold beer, and realize this is the kind of place where time slows down, where you can actually taste the moment, not just the food.
No, it’s not perfect. It’s not trying to be. But if you want a spot where the food is hearty, the beer is cold, and the view is unforgettable, Salsa Mexicana has you covered. It’s rough around the edges, but so is life, and that’s what makes it...

I’m from New Mexico so I really know what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. This place is well intentioned…but serious falls short. Usually smothering something in cheese makes it better but at this place it’s just a was a greesy artery clogging mess. Had the burger it was pretty good. The side sauce with it is way to sweet. Had the nachos like I said it was just a generic cheesy mess and the chicken was flavorless. My friend had potato skins and those were ok. Place had a good atmosphere but a healthy amount of mosquitoes which was a nuisance. At the end I paid 820 baht for it all and I just felt ripped off. If my taste buds were delighted paying 820 baht is well worth it. But I seriously struggled through this meal. I was hungry so I just ate it. The best way to put it is the Nachos sucked and I over paid…390 for just blah. I read someone’s review saying it was the best Mexican they have ever tried…. That’s bad if that is true. From the limited selection of food I had here it’s just really not that good and not worth the cost. But the honorable mention is the burger that was solid. If you want a disappointing experience…visit this place. The staff was attentive and respectful. This was one place I will never visit again. I would have been happier with a baloney sandwich and that is no...
Read moreFull disclosure, I own a Mexican restaurant in Thailand. Consequently, I'm awarding it 5 stars so there can be no accusation of bias.
But I did feel there were areas that could be improved and hopefully the owner takes my comments in the manner they're intended - honest feedback hoping to improve Mexican cuisine all over Thailand.
So I loved the wooden, ramshackle building, clinging to the cliff. The views of the setting sun were perfect.
I ordered a strong and tasty margarita on the rocks with salt. And as I recall it was very reasonably priced.
Opening the menu, though, was a bit disheartening. While there was Mexican cuisine available, there was also Thai and burgers.
That's a very personal issue for me... I like venues that specialise in one cuisine rather than trying to be a Jack of all Trades.
I ordered only Mexican dishes and they were OK.... but just OK.
I know firsthand the difficulties in finding authentic ingredients so I can empathise.
However, I felt like every dish needed ramping up with more spices and herbs. Ahh... And when I asked for a hot sauce there was only Tabasco and a Thai sauce.
Oh, but the salsa was very fresh and tangy. If the rest of the menu was the same standard, this would be an...
