Wow! Maybe the best mocha in Thailand?
Or as good as any I've ever had anywhere (including places like Vienna, New York City, Paris, and a dozen other places known for nice things.) Benjamit coffee delivers. Perfect mocha. Zero bitterness. Smooth. Excellent creamy foam. This will be a regular spot for me.
I like mochas. And there are a lot of great coffee places in Pattaya that make a lot of great mochas. Most mochas I've tried here in Pattaya need a packet of sugar to take the bitter edge off, to lessen the bite. Not here at Benjamit. It's a perfect roast. Probably because they are a coffee roaster. The open air shop smells wonderful!
And the spot is charming! Truly. At about 0900, the tables were mostly occupied by solo expats sitting at tables. Crossed arms. Politely, yet emphatically discussing world affairs. They were grumpy old men that were showing that you can disagree on things and yet be civil. It was a surprising pleasure to watch this discourse. Fly on the wall and all that. It was short lasting, but the grumpy old guy vibe was strong for a minute. Again, this was kinda fun to watch, even though the shop staff were great about checking on tables to make sure everything stayed in check. Their tolerance and concern were palpably reassuring, made me like the place even more. They really care about and seem to pay attention to all the details. Things never felt like they were about to become unglued, or turn ugly, like in the USA. It was civil discourse in a public place. Kinda cool. I liked the overall vibe.
I'd go back just for the vibe. But it was the perfect mocha that ensures my return. I'll work my way through their menu. Benjamit will be particularly good if I want pastry and a dessert. it's perfect for that. I'm looking forward...
Read moreCoffee: You will get addicted to this place. Their drinks are mind-blowingly amazing. You can properly taste the smoothness and sweetness of the coffee even in iced drink. Seriously considering moving to Pattaya just so I can have their drink everyday, I'm not even joking. Their machine is a La Marzocco with levers which was really fun to look at.
Snacks: Good and cheap crosants. So-so egg custard cake(?), it tasted good the first bite but got too sweet a few more bites in. You might like it if you have sweet-tooth though, cus I'm really not.
Service: Very friendly and nice people. Couldn't ask for more.
Beans: Wouldn't recommend for filter coffee. I mean the price was good, it didn't taste bad, and the fault could be entirely my own lack of skills, but I feel that the beans I tried would have tasted so much better as an espresso...
Read moreI am going to go against everyone else's reviews. I went today and there is nothing wrong with the service, the coffee is apparently roasted on site and I did like the coffee but it was so busy that unfortunately, it was loud, as in night club loud.
It was extremely, extremely busy and there were a lot of farungs having coffee chatting and hardly a phone in sight. My companion and I liked the coffee, but we could not talk to each other without shouting. I don't expect dead silence and it is a measure of their success however it spoiled our experience and we quickly left. The coffee shop does not have control over its patrons, so this is more of a warning that if it is busy, it will be loud.
I have to give this shop a 3 star rating because of that one issue but again, it is a measure of...
