Stayed at the Sofitel SO at Cha-Am and there's not much around the hotel. Found this restaurant on Google maps and it had decent reviews. It's a good 15 minute walk from the hotel along some back streets but is relatively easy to find.
Arrived at the restaurant at 8pm (on a Wednesday) and it was very quiet with only one table of local guests. The place is quite large but with no one there it seemed a bit deserted.
The staff didn't speak much English, but there was a extensive English menu (with Thai translations for each item). Everything was served within 10 minutes from ordering and it was good solid Thai food.
We had some Thai staples, the Tom Kha Gai (Tamarind Coconut Milk Soup with Chicken) and Fried Morning Glory were really good. We also had stir-fried Chicken with garlic and Prawns with basil and chili.

Average: crab with spring onion & servic, with few servers and fewer English speakers, so rely on google translation
Good and bad: green curry with prawns had a very good flavour but again was far too chilli-hot for us even though we said “ped nit noy” again - but, worst of all, the prawns were stale and mushy (this was midweek with half a dozen tables occupied by satisfied Thai families, so no excuse)
Terrible: gai tom kha (chicken and...
