Kin Kub Koi, a veritable gem among local seafood establishments, lives up to its illustrious reputation with an effortless grace that is rare to find. Today, I indulged in a quartet of dishes—Tom Yum Goong, deep-fried sea bass with fish sauce, crab meat stir-fried with spring onions, and crab meat fried rice—each presenting an admirable showcase of culinary finesse.
The seafood, unquestionably fresh, possesses that sublime firmness one associates with a catch still brimming with life. Yet, the true marvel here is not merely the quality of the ingredients but the delicate artistry with which they are prepared. In a landscape where sweetness often dominates, Kin Kub Koi opts instead for balance, allowing the natural flavours to unfold with restrained elegance. This judicious approach to seasoning elevates the dishes beyond the ordinary, lending them a certain understated sophistication.
Now, I must pause to highlight the crab meat fried rice, a dish I often consider the barometer of a restaurant’s prowess. It is, without exaggeration, a triumph in its own right. Good enough to stand proudly as a main course, it serves not only as a vehicle for the restaurant’s flawless seafood but also as a testament to their ability to turn a seemingly simple dish into something extraordinary. When a humble fried rice reaches such heights, one knows they are in the presence of culinary mastery.
As for the portions, they are as generous as they are delicious. Gargantuan slabs of seafood, while a pleasure to savour, do demand a certain level of commitment from the jaw. The standard Thai dining trick of ‘n+1’ portions would be wholly redundant here; suffice it to say, the dishes at Kin Kub Koi do not skimp.
However, as is often the case with such quality, it comes at a price. The fare here does tend towards the more expensive side, but one cannot deny the value. You are paying for excellence—freshness, masterful preparation, and portions that could feed a small army. In this instance, you most assuredly get what you pay for.
As for the service, it is precisely what one might expect from an esteemed local haunt—efficient, unobtrusive, and without pretense. The atmosphere, similarly, eschews extravagance in favour of family-friendly conviviality. However, a special commendation must be made for the restaurant’s thoughtful inclusivity, with a design that caters to those with disabilities or the elderly, a touch of humanity that elevates the experience beyond mere gastronomy.
In sum, Kin Kub Koi is a place I would gladly revisit for those moments when family and the finer pleasures of the...
Read moreI’ve been hearing about this place for years and was really excited to try it, but honestly, it didn’t quite meet my expectations. The seafood, including the shrimp, crab, and squid, was large with firm meat, but it lacked the natural sweetness that I had anticipated. The shrimp, in particular, had one with runny roe, while the other didn’t feel as fresh, which was quite disappointing.
The seasoning on the cooked dishes was overly sweet and didn't allow the natural flavors of the seafood to shine through. Unfortunately, this made everything taste somewhat similar. Even the stir-fried vegetables didn’t quite hit the mark. The seafood dipping sauce also didn’t have the bold, zesty kick I was expecting—it was a bit too sweet for my liking.
If I lived in the city, I’m afraid I wouldn’t make the effort to drive all the way here for this meal. The taste, though not unpleasant, didn’t leave a strong impression. Moreover, given the price, there are many other options in town that offer fresher, more flavorful dishes.
As for the restaurant itself, it offers ample parking, making it a good choice for large groups or family gatherings. The space is clean, spacious, and has a pleasant glass-walled dining area. The air-conditioning was comfortable, and the overall atmosphere was inviting. However, the staff, though polite, seemed a bit slow to respond to requests, and I found myself having to ask several people for assistance...
Read moreWe saw this restaurant in a YouTube food recommendation video, in the video they ordered so many seafood dishes and only came out to 2000 baht, so we thought it was going to be good. In reality, it is so much more pricey, maybe they updated their menu pricing. It's actually 2000 baht just for a single pomfret fish...and the service is non-existent, they took the payment and didn't come back with the change until I asked at least 3 distracted employees. We are here during monsoon and the lights and AC in the building went off... twice. For the cost they are charging - 2500 baht for two overcooked crab shells in milk, fried rice, and only a handful of crab pieces mixed with herbs - the least they can do is provide consistent electricity indoors, otherwise what is this absurd high cost for. Look at how little they give for how much they charge. Yes, I can see they work hard, but there's just too much going on distracting the employees and the prices are too absurd to justify going here. Oh boy is this place overrated. Do not let their accolades and Michelin guide labels fool you. Such average fried rice, and overcooked bland seafood in teeny tiny quantities. Not worth it, not returning, and not recommended,...
