Mun Duey Tua — Restaurant in Songkhla Province

If you’re coming into or out of Hat Yai, this place should be your last stop or your first bite. It’s a streetside cart run by people who’ve been doing this long before anyone thought of writing reviews about dessert. What you get is a glass filled with sweet potatoes, candied pineapple, red beans, millet — all buried in crushed ice and drowned in coconut milk. It’s not cloyingly sweet like so many desserts. And it’s 25 baht — about the price of a bottle of water in Bangkok.

I hear the queue forms early and moves like a lazy river. The heat makes tempers short, and the aunty running the place might scold you if you get fussy or show up before she’s ready. But people have been coming here for decades. Grandparents who first came as children now bring their grandchildren.

Turn up after 2 p.m. and you’re likely out of luck. Some days, the flavour’s off — perhaps the coconut milk is a bit thin, or the beans slightly overdone. But even on an off day, it still does what...

“ที่บ้านขายมันเดือยมาตั้งแต่รุ่นพ่อแม่ พ.ศ. 2516 ขายแก้วละ 50 สตางค์ ตอนนั้นน้ายังเด็ก ทำหน้าที่เป็นลูกมือคอยจัดเตรียมวัตถุดิบ” ย้อนกลับไปในราวทศวรรษ 2510 รอบชุมชนรถไฟหาดใหญ่มีร้านรถเข็นขายมันเดือยอยู่ 2 แห่ง ตั้งอยู่ตรงข้ามกัน แต่ละร้านต่างมีบรรยากาศคึกคัก เนื่องจากเป็นสถานที่พบปะสังสรรค์ของผู้คน และเป็นจุดนัดพบของกลุ่มวัยรุ่น ด้วยพื้นฐานของคนถิ่นเดียวกัน จึงเกิดความผูกพัน สร้างความสนุกสนานให้แก่การค้าขาย ดังที่น้าวรรณีเล่าให้ฟังว่า “แต่ก่อนการขายมันเดือยสนุกมาก เพราะจะมีคนทำงาน นักเรียน และกลุ่มวัยรุ่น เข้ามานั่งพูดคุยกัน บางคนก็พาแฟนมาเปิดตัว บางคนนิยมกินแข่งกับเพื่อน ๆ จึงสั่งไม่ต่ำกว่าคนละ 5 – 6 แก้ว อย่างเมื่อ 10 ปีก่อนมีนักเรียนชายที่ต้องจากบ้านไปเรียนต่อประเทศเยอรมนี เลยสั่งมากินคนเดียว 12 แก้ว โดยให้เหตุผลว่า กินตุนไว้ จะได้ไม่คิดถึงหาดใหญ่มากเกินไป “หรือบางคนไปเรียนต่อหรือประกอบอาชีพในกรุงเทพฯ แล้วบ่นอยากกินขนมมันเดือยพร้อมสาธยายความอร่อย ทำให้เพื่อนต่างถิ่นสงสัยใคร่รู้จนต้องตามมาดูและชิมถึงที่นี่”

ขนมมันเดือยเสิร์ฟมาในแก้วใสที่ภายในใส่ถั่วแดง ลูกเดือย มันเชื่อม และสับปะรดเชื่อม ผสมรวมกันอยู่ก้นแก้ว โปะด้วยน้ำแข็งปั่นละเอียด ราดด้วยน้ำกะทิกลิ่นหอมอ่อน ๆ เชิญชวนให้น้ำลายสอ ฉันรีบคนให้ทุกอย่างเข้ากัน สัมผัสแรกเป็นรสหวาน เคี้ยวหนึบจากมันเชื่อมและลูกเดือย ผสานความมันจากถั่วแดง ตบตามด้วยความมันและเค็มเล็กน้อยจากน้ำกะทิ และสดชื่นด้วยความเปรี้ยวจากสับปะรดเชื่อมพร้อมน้ำแข็งป่น ช่วยกระตุ้นให้อยากกินคำต่อไปเรื่อย ๆ

It’s quite hard to find this place . It’s situated away from town and need walk-in distance . Unable ride Tuk Tuk as I don’t know how talk with driver . When arrived there , it’s near Robison shopping centre car park. Next time when visit this place please mentioned Robison shopping centre to the Tuk Tuk driver . It’s a hawker stall located under the big tree at the corner of car park . Costs thb250 per glass. , it’s too sweet...
