This is a pickled onion appreciation post. We came here to get our usual: The two taco platter. Upgraded to fish tacos. Comes with spiced rice, refried beans, sour cream, and some tomato salsa.
Delicious as ever. Nice battered chunks of King fish, well seasoned. Some months ago, the recipe of those tacos was changed. And: by adding pickled red cabbage, they became even better.
Today, the platter came with something new again!
A small bowl of pickled onions. And damn, they are good! Thanks for that.
This is imho the only restaurant that gets better over time on this island. We had many favourite places, and many had declining quality over the years.
But Ando Loco keeps getting better.
I am sipping on the House Margerita as I write this (which is the best margarita on the island - I don't know how they do it...), my head is nodding to some 90s BoomBap. Sometimes they play old Rock Music as well, but everything with quality, no radio pop...
Read moreThe reviews of this place saying it’s “American style” Mexican food are flat out wrong. The food is cheap and comes in good portion sizes, and the staff are quite friendly. However, it seriously lacks flavor—most notably salt. I can go to any generic Mexican restaurant in the states and get better food. It’s nice if you want to sit down in an actual restaurant, but I recommend Tito’s Bitchin Burritos at the food market nearby; much more flavorful and better salsa. This place’s guacamole simply tasted of avocado and some pepper. Very little onion, cilantro, or lime.
Overall, mediocre experience. There’s some terrible Mexican food on phangan (looking at you, Happy Days), there’s some pretty good Mexican food (relative to the location) and then there’s middle of the road, such...
Read moreWe've been coming here since 2014 on 4 different trips over the years. Not only is it super rare to find a Mexican style restaurant around these parts, but the food competes with great Mexican style places back in Canada and the US.
The margaritas are made with lots of fresh lime, not too sweet, and hit the spot. Happy hour is from 4-6pm everyday, you can get the Jumbo margarita for 25 baht off and tacos are only 45 baht during this time.
We usually get the ground beef taco with hard corn shell and add sour cream and cheese. So good! Fish tacos are always on point, as well as the quesadillas.
This place is always worth multiple visits when in Koh Phangan. Also check out their burger place, Ando's Burger only a couple minutes...
