We arrived at Wok and the Much Rooms as a group of 6 at around 5/6pm on New Year’s Eve a few months back. We had travelled to Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party, and were just using this hotel as a base for the evening. We paid around £20 each (more than other hostel type places in Thailand but still relatively cheap) and didn’t really expect much. A room to store our stuff and go straight out was all we were looking for. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by one of the most friendly people I’ve ever met, a lady who I presume owned the place. We were shown to our room straight away and were told to give them a shout if we had any problems. We put our stuff down and came back out to the open-air reception where we were invited to have some food. We then noticed there was a Chinese food buffet on the go. After travelling for hours from Krabi with the hangover from hell, we got stuck in straight away. The buffet only cost a few Thai Baht so again, we didn’t expect anything. However the food was lovely and was just what we needed after a long day. I should also add that there is a shared area in reception where you can charge your phone. As it’s fairly close to the road and potential thieves, I was a bit apprehensive to leave my phone there. However it’s a testament to the owners husband (again one of the nicest people you could meet) that I felt safe enough to leave it there for an hour or so under his watchful eye.||||After causing havoc at the Full Moon Party, we wandered back into the hostel at around 10am. 3 of the boys had thrown the towel in early so they were asleep in bed. A few of us came back in a daze from the events at Mushroom Mountain on Koh Phangan, and still couldn’t help but notice how hard both the owner and her husband were working to keep the place looking tip-top. For my sins I didn’t have a shower before we left the hostel to get our boat to Koh Samui, but I had one the night before and the showers are actually hot (and stay hot). The same can’t be said for all hostels in Thailand. Overall, we were over the moon with our choice of hostel for new years eve and would recommend it to anyone staying in Koh Phangan for sure.||||Ps watch out for the chillies in the buffet food. We watched the sweat pour down the face of our (lightweight) friend after he ate one of these unknowingly. Talk about...

Read moreI booked to stay here for a few nights over NYE but when I arrived I found an empty dorm room. When I arrived on the night ferry at got dropped off in the middle of nowhere I got someone to call the hostel to see if they could direct me to the place but they came in their car to pick me up without me asking them to. They then tried to charge me for it. They also tried to charge me an extra night for arriving so early in the morning. I told them that it was not fair and that no other place I had been to had ever done that and an huge argument ensued with the lady owner. She nearly didn't let me stay and eventually agreed she was out of order. At this point I had been shouted at and intimidated and was not planning on giving them my money especially as they were charging extortionate rates for NYE. I left after 3 hours "sleep" by which time i could grab a bike and my bag and find another place to stay. On a final note this place is at least a half hour bike ride away from haad rin and the FMP so be aware when booking if you need...
