I visited Chana Masala restaurant after seeing good Google reviews last week, but honestly, it was disappointing. The food was just okay nothing special, and definitely not worth the hype. There are so many other places that serve much better food. What really put me off was the service. The staff seemed way more attentive to white customers than to us,the vibe felt discriminatory. We had to ask for basic things like spoons and bowls because they weren’t paying attention and the onion lemon salad? Somewhere around 60 Baht for 5-6 onion rings and 1-2 lemon slices that’s ridiculous.I’ve seen restaurants serve this for free in thailand, but here they charged and it wasn’t even anything special. I never went back and I won’t be returning.
Edit - Thank you for your response. I appreciate that you focus on authentic ingredients and your own style and I respect that food taste is subjective. My review wasn’t just about the food, but mainly about the service experience I had. While you say your staff treat everyone equally, that honestly wasn’t what I experienced during my visit. I felt the service was not attentive and that was disappointing.I hope you genuinely reflect on this feedback instead of just defending...
Read moreFirst of all, I have to say that the food was good, yet not very special. I asked the waiter what he could recommend, and so I ordered a dish with rice and garlic naan, which was unfortunately WAY too much for me. I asked the waiter, whether I could take the rest as a take away and he agreed. He brought the package to me and I realized that the garlic bread was missing. When I asked him about it he just laughed and said „Oh we already threw it away. Next time you get one for free.“ I said that I would be leaving tomorrow and he just laughed and went inside. I didn’t eat the whole bread up on purpose, so I could eat it later with the rest of my dish. It made me a little bit angry, because I paid 440 Bht for one person and they just threw away my food… I went inside and asked whether they at least could give me some bread and the staff was very unfriendly and just gave me a little piece of dry naan bread, which didn’t taste good at all.
I am very sorry, but this is not the service I expect when I have to pay 440 Bht… I would not even pay this amount of money in Europe in an Indian restaurant.
I have worked as a waitress for a long time… and I would always go the courteous way… instead of risking a bad...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant because of the good reviews. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant looks inviting. Unfortunately, the service did not meet expectations. We were not greeted when we entered and the staff seemed unfriendly, almost defensive - something you hardly ever experience in Thailand.
The waiters were not very attentive and showed no hospitality at all. A lantern was placed on our table without comment, only to be removed shortly afterwards without a word and taken to another table. When a wrong drink was served, it was simply taken away again without explanation or apology.
The main course (dal) and the chapati were very tasty, but overpriced for the small portions. The green salad, on the other hand, was a disappointment: it consisted of just four thick slices of onion, a few slices of cucumber, unripe tomatoes and some carrot - with no dressing or seasoning. There was also no seasoning on the table. We were also charged for six chapati instead of the four we had ordered.
Overall, our visit was disappointing, mainly because of the poor service. We will definitely...
