5 Stars – A True Hidden Gem! The Best Authentic Thai Food on Koh Phangan
If you’re looking for real Thai food, look no further. Sonolito is a humble, family-run restaurant tucked away on a quiet sandy road – easy to miss, but absolutely unforgettable once found.
The mother does all the cooking herself, and you can truly taste the love and tradition in every single dish. Her children serve the food with so much warmth and care – it feels like you’re being welcomed into their home.
The food is nothing short of incredible. Every bite is a burst of perfectly balanced Thai flavors – spicy, sweet, salty, sour – it’s a true taste explosion. You can tell it’s made with heart, soul, and years of experience.
I’ve traveled all over Thailand for many years and eaten everywhere – but Sonolito is hands down the most authentic and delicious Thai food I’ve had. This little place has something truly special… a kind of quiet magic.
Don’t be fooled by the simple setup – plastic chairs, a tiny kitchen, barely any sign – because what’s happening inside is culinary gold.
Highly recommended. A must-visit for anyone who wants to experience the true heart of...
Read moreDon’t go here, just don’t. Half of what we ordered wasn’t available and the rest (2 curries) were mediocre. Curry was way to salt and just some chicken with sauce, no veggies whatsoever. Totally uninspiring. The waiter was very young and friendly but it looks like he didn’t really know what he is doing or understood anything we were saying. The place was full of bugs and flies that are buzzing around your food, so not very relaxt when you are eating. The restaurant is part of a small resort but you can’t pay with card, which is very strange. It was our last night so we didn’t have a lot of cash anymore but had to drive to an atm to get cash which costs us an extra fee of 220 baht (for a meal that wasn’t worth it at all). I think the owner was sitting in the restaurant drinking beer with other people, but there was no attention for dining guests. These guys are amateurs, not more than that. Just skip this place, I don’t know at all where all the other raving reviews are coming from… This is the first time I’ve ever given a 1-star review but it’s really not more than that, spend your money at better places...
Read moreTHIS IS HOW LACK OF INTEREST TASTES We went here last night. Cosy place, close to the road but still pleasant. On the other hand: bright light, low ceilings and almost no working fans, meaning: lots of insects flying around. Nice staff member seating us. I ordered a Pina Colada; I got a 'Sorry, we can't make that tonight'. I ordered spring rolls; I got a 'Sorry, we're out of them'. We finally got a mango shake (well done), a fried curry with rice (bit salty, but not bad) and a penang curry (too salt as well, no veggies at all, looked more like a greenish puddle with some chicken). Then we wanted to pay: I got a 'Sorry, only cash'. So we had to find a cash machine. But the worst part: the Austrian owner of the place saw all of this happening, and had a look like: 'I couldn't care less'. I didn't have a nice dinner, but most of all, I feel sorry for the staff to be working at a...
