English: During our vacation we booked a cooking course through our tour operator and were taken by shuttle (very nice driver by the way) from our hotel to the Sala Thai restaurant in Chaweng.
There, Chef Sathit and his staff welcomed us in a very friendly and warm manner and immediately brought us refreshments. Then we were allowed to choose 4 dishes from the menu that we want to learn and cook. Sathit supported us because we were a bit overwhelmed by the offer. So we decided on chicken satay, tom kha gai, phad thai and sticky rice mango. The crew prepared all the ingredients for us and off we went. Sathit and a lady helped us and gave us instructions on what to do. We could ask him anything and always got a good answer. The dishes were super delicious and since each of us had our own cooking space, we were able to prepare the dishes according to our individual tastes. That was great.
We love Sticky Rice, but for that you need an extra "pot attachment" at home what we don't have. Sathit immediately sent one of his employees to buy this for us as it is hard to find in Europe. He didn't bill us for the cost. That was so sweet of him and we are very grateful for that.
They also packed up the leftovers of the food that we didn't manage to eat for later. If our hotel was in chaweng, we would certainly have come here to eat more often.
Sathit also made many videos and photos of us during the course and afterwards he even took the trouble to make a small video for us (you can find it on Instagram -- salathai_). Everyone was very committed and made the course a great experience for us. Would book with him again at any time and can recommend it unreservedly. There were only two of us👍
Thank you Sathit and stuff for everything👏we'll come back when we are on Samui. Greetings Nadine&Chris
Read morePassed by this resto on main road at Chaweng Beach and place was crowded so checked out reviews and reserved for following evening...was not disappointed...great food and so inexpensive to comparable food on island...found it even cheaper than food market stalls and quality was superb...Stafg so helpful and attentive and English decent.. .always there to fill up glasses of wine etc...I had mussels in soy or tamarind based broth and have to admit that they were the best I have ever had. They import them from New Zealand and are as ump and juicy as ones that we get in Canafa but the broth mixture was the icing on the cake...so good!!! We are only bete for 5 nights but have already booked for our last night here on island and definitely taking mussels again and will try chicken curry which so many people seemed to have ordered around us...We had a great meal for 600 bahts (about 24$ Canadian) and worth...
Read moreThis restaurant offers some of the best food that I’ve had in my travels in Thailand. Everything utilizes high-quality ingredients and spices. The presentation is beautiful, and everything is fragrant with the aroma of Thailand specialties. The ambiance is fancy with Thai ornamentation all around, with the waitstaff dressed in old Thai costuming. The view from the back is attractive and has a nice breeze. I am a vegetarian, and everything seems to be able to be made up with tofu. I am a particular fan of their Massaman curry which is shown in the picture. Their Mai Tais are quite nice also. Everything is reasonably priced, especially when you consider the quality of the food that you are receiving. The time to get your food is reasonable. Once I found this restaurant I no longer went to any other one for dinner or lunch as I couldn’t imagine finding anything that I would...
