Phu-Talay Seafood Restaurant — Restaurant in Trat Province

Visited on 11/4/19, the restaurant is located down a small side alley off the main road not far from Wat Klong Phlu. Tables were available both in the restaurant itself and on the patio by the river. We choose the patio as we arrived around 6pm and wanted to be able to watch the sunset, we weren't disappointed. It was quite spectacular. Service was attentive and friendly, very laid back and not at all intrusive. The food was delicious. Well cooked and well presented. Or bill came to about B1,300 for food for 3 people, and because it was so good we had a lot. Plus about B600 for drinks. IMO, very good value. Me (13 years in Thailand) and my Thai wife have been running a small restaurant, serving Thai and western food in Bangkok, for about 4 years, so we know good Thai food when we see it. Unfortunately disappointed by the food and the service. This place had been recommended by friends who came here some time ago. The soft shell crab with garlic and black pepper had no garlic or black pepper, neither had it another interesting taste. And the chicken with cashew nuts was an overall disappointment, with its out of the tin can, cheap tomato flavor. My lemonade tasted salt - that’s a first for me - sent it back, nobody cared about why. It will be my only 1 star review on Koh Chang, mainly because of the food but also because the staff spent more time on their mobile phone than paying attention to the guests and didn’t care at all. It was raining and windy. The wind blew u the blanket and my beer completely. Were send to another table. Excuses but no beer… The dinner, strir friend squid was not stirfriend but seemen coocked and was tasteless. I took mixed seefood. Everything was old, nothing fresh, the two mussles, the shrimps and small peaces of fish came from the fridge and were heated in a hurry. No taste at all. The ginger was fresh, the lemongrass too, everything else… sury not. My wife too sticky rice with mango.
