Hands down one of the best Thai restaurant we ever visited. We ended up coming here each evening for 6 nights in a row because of the fantastic food. 🌶️🥇 The name of the place is a bit misleading as it is not a bar per se, but rather a typical Thai restaurant at the side of a street. The owner is very kind and attentive and this also means food can take a while because he is the only one cooking while his staff is taking orders or prepares shakes etc. This can end up in longer waiting times but is something normal for such a small restaurant. However, the food is worth it and our trick has been to come before 6pm to simply avoid the rush hour. ⏳ The real gem of this restaurant are the curries in all its flavors and options. 💎 We tried all of them and the red and panang curry are simply fantastic: rich in flavor and just delicious. 🍛 We can also recommend the tofu cashew nuts and deserts, primarily the fried roti 🫓 and mango sticky rice 🥭 🍚. Overall, this restaurant is highly recommended and worth the waiting time of any occurs. You will end up having a very good food quality and nice time worth remembering. 🥇🙂

As I brought my own dog with me to the island, I messaged to ask if she could accompany me while I had my dinner; the restaurant responded in a timely fashion (saying yes), along with answering my follow-up questions. I asked what I should order, and I was quickly told the Massaman curry. I ordered the curry with chicken, roti, and rice. I'm usually a rice-with-my-curry type of person, but I'd say you're grand with just the roti. (I probably gave half of my rice to my dog as a holdover to her own dinner.) I finished off my meal with the mango sticky rice, which pushed me over the edge in terms of being full, but it was completely worth it. Everything was brilliant. I have been living in Asia for 12 years, which includes 5 years in Thailand, and this is the best Massaman curry that I've ever had. The restaurant is family run. I can't comment too much on the atmosphere, as I was the only one in (around 6:30 PM) for some time. I obviously didn't have to wait at all for my food. It started to pick up as I was finishing up, around 7:30 PM. It's definitely worth a visit during your time on Koh Mak!

Customized Vegetarian Dishes 🌱 (our tuk-tuk driver drove us there telling us he’s been stopped by for meals coz the chef is talented in cooking.) After checking the menu, I asked the chef does he provide vegetarian menu? He told me every dishes can be made as vegetarian. I ordered a fried rice with egg only for our toddler and she ate 1/3 of the whole plate. (Our kid was hungry so I didn’t have chance to take a picture. Yet the simple dish he made was so yummy distinguished his cooking skill without questions.) For us, I ordered red curry and asked him see if he can make tom yum mushroom soup (which is not on the menu) and he said no problem. Everything is order to make and this is one man kitchen (he’s really efficient yet depends how many orders before you). It’s really worthy for waiting to the food he prepared. Basically, we cleaned all the plates. 😋😋😋 Whenever we passed by his bar restaurant, the smoky chili scent simply reminds us those delicious dishes he made.
